A6, UNITED ARAB EMIRATES

DXCC NEWS
* It has been reported that HZ1FI QSLs are being rejected. Reason given ­ no documentation received by ARRL.

* Following the DXCC Desk's clarification on Russian prefixes which counts for European Russia (see OPDX.1039.2), Boris, E73Y, disputes the line "Any call with the prefix U and the numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7". Boris states that the U5 callsigns has been used for WWII veterans in Ukraine not European Russia." The Russian callsign system was changed in mid-2010. E5, SOUTH COOK ISLANDS
Bill, N7OU, who flew back from Manihiki, North Cook, on December 6th, reports that he made 16,250 QSOs as E51MAN. He was active this past weekend during the ARRL 10m Contest as E51NOU from Rarotonga, South Cook, CW only. He informed OPDX that he will be uploading his E51MAN and E51NOU logs to LoTW (ASAP) after his return to the USA this week. Also, he will miss the last part of the 10m contest because he will fly back to the USA at 1000z, on December 11th.

ET, ETHIOPIA
David, K3LP, and a group of operators are now active from the club station ET3AA and the QTH of ET3SID until December 13th. QSL both callsigns for "only this particular operation in December", via N2OO. In a short press release on Saturday, David mentioned that their ARRL VE Team completed the FCC License test session on December 10th, at the University of Addis Ababa. The results are:

HU2, EL SALVADOR (Update)

IOTA NEWS
AS-079. Takeshi "TAKE", JS6RRR, will be active as JS6RRR and JI3DST/JS6 from Miyako Island (AS-079-005) between 0800z, December 23rd and 0000z, January 5th, 2012. Activity from Miyakojima City, Okinawa (JCC#4714), will be on 160/80/75/40/30/20/17/15/12/10/6 meters using CW, SSB, RTTY, PSK31 and FM. Take will also go to Ikema-jima (AS-079-001) and Kurima-jima (AS-079-003) one or two times during this stay. This can change due to work situations or rainy weather and travel time. Members of "The NN6NN RTTY Team" will be activating PJ2N from the Signal Point Station - PJ2T on Curacao Island (SA-099, WLOTA LH-0942) during the 2012 ARRL RTTY Round-Up (January 7-8th, 2012). QSL MANAGER OF THE YEAR AWARD. John, K1XN, announced this past week: "The Golist QSL Manager Data Service is reviving its 'QSL Manager of the Year Award'. The purpose of this award it to recognize the service of QSL Managers world wide for the service they provide to the World Wide Amateur Community. Nominations for this award will be accepted by the Golist from DX and Contest clubs, world wide, for the year of 2012.

Each DX club and Contest club is encouraged to poll their members for their nominations for the Top 5 QSL Managers for 2012. The definition of a QSL Manager for this award is any person that confirms contacts via QSL Card for any station other than their Primary Call Sign.

Each club should tabulate the votes of their members and submit to the Golist the Top 5 vote getters as voted by members of their club. Votes should be tabulated and sent to the Golist by August 1st, 2012, to be eligible for the QSL Manager of the Year award. Each club world wide may only send one submission for voting purposes. Records of submission will be maintained by the Golist.

SILENT KEY
The members of the Northern Ohio DX Association lost a great friend/member, Don Schmidt, N8AC, on December 3rd. His DXCC totals were 343/329. Don retired from NASA Lewis Research Center as an Electronic Research Technician after 31 yrs., and was a also a WWII veteran during the Berlin Air Lift, as well as during the Korean War. OPDX and its readers would like to send out our deepest sympathy to the family and friends of N8AC.

T32C PRESS RELEASE (Bulletin #10)
Don, G3XTT, FSDXA T32C Publicity Officer, sent out the following on December 11th (edited):

"It's about six weeks now since the team returned home from Christmas Island, and we wanted to update everyone and answer some of the questions we are being asked.

TOTALS, RECORDS: Firstly, as most of you will know, our final QSO total was 213,116, the first time any DXpedition has exceeded the magic 200k (some will recall that, with D68C, we were the first to exceed 100k). We also worked 49,535 uniques, another world record. Just a few short weeks before the trip started we wondered whether we could manage a respectable total at all, as it had become clear that our container of equipment would not arrive and we would have to hand carry everything. In the event, team members and others, including our major sponsors, rallied round and we were able to run up to ten stations, eight of them equipped with linears, along with a very respectable array of vertical antennas for 160 through 10 and, later in the trip, an 8-element Yagi for 6m. What also came as a very pleasant surprise was the upturn in HF con- ditions just days before we started ­ 10 and 12m propagation was well above what we had dared to hope.

Partly as a result of those improvements in propagation, we are partic- ularly proud of the number of European QSOs included in that total, some 59,673. A breakdown of our QSOs appears on the Club Log website:

Other records that we broke included the band records for 30m,15m and 12m and those for CW (102,216), SSB (88,416) and RTTY (19,225). Another record was with North America (109,327).

6 METERS: Just a word about our 6m operation. Not only did the container fail to arrive, but Kazu JA1RJU, our 6m guru, had to cancel his partic- ipation at the last minute for health reasons (as we reported in a previous bulletin). It was left to team members Michael/DG1MGZ, Mike/ G3WPH and Bob/MD0CCE to learn 'on the job'. Not only did they manage seven EME QSOs in two continents (it would have been more, but the 6m linear developed a fault), but they also managed 103 terrestrial QSOs, including some quite long-haul ones into the USA and South America (possibly due to some early 6m F2 propagation?).

THE CONTAINER: We are regularly asked what happened to the shipping container with its six tons of gear. The good news is that, while we were let down by local agents and shippers in the Pacific area, there is no problem with shipping on the main routes, and it is currently on its way back to the UK, scheduled to arrive in late January.

QSLing: Full details of how to request a 'traditional' QSL appear on our website, so are not repeated here. You can send a direct or bureau card, or make an online request. The card design has been finalized and we plan to start mailing cards in January after the Christmas postal rush.

As for Logbook of the World, we promised an upload within six months and, in practice, it will be very much earlier. We wanted to upload as clean a log as possible and have made some 500+ editorial changes to the log as a result of feedback from the log uploads to Club Log and notes received from many of the Deserving. But we are very conscious that many of you want to do a DXCC update before year-end. Therefore, LoTW permitting, we plan to start the upload on 15 December 2011, just over six frenetic weeks after our return from T32C. Uploading 213k QSOs is a huge task and we don't necessarily expect it to go smoothly first time (D68C, 3B9C and 3B7C all experienced problems), so the upload may take several days to complete.

We have a team of 10 QSL managers ready to start processing the T32C cards and we estimate that we will eventually confirm around 140,000 QSOs.

StarQSL, our internet-based QSLing system, has been enhanced recently by its author John, G3WGV. Major developments include a new batch import facility to work directly with Club Log's OQRS, incorporating an address label printing facility. We will be printing direct to QSL cards this time. Various improved ergonomics have also been introduced to help speed up the QSLing program.

Just a word too about QSLing our earlier DXpeditions, as T32C has prompted renewed interest in getting missing cards from those trips. The following have taken over QSLing responsibilities for our 3B7C and 3B9C DXpeditions:

PRESENTATIONS, ARTICLES: An early DXpedition write up has already appeared in the WIA (Australia) journal and one is in preparation for Brazil (in Portuguese, tnx PY2WAS). The RSGB's RadCom will carry a four-page article in the January issue and the latest edition of the CDXC (Chiltern DX Club, the UK DX Foundation) Digest is very much a 'T32C Special'. We have also accepted invitations to present at Dayton and Visalia and at next year’s RSGB Convention as well as at the LADX (Norway) and ARI (Italian) events. We expect to feature on the program at Friedrichshafen and other national and local clubs over the next 12 months.

DVD, etc.: A DVD is currently in preparation and orders can be placed via the website. We expect it to start shipping in January ­ there is 25 hours of material to be edited down! The DVD will also include the 3B7C story.

TO4, MAYOTTE

V3, BELIZE
Bob, N7MSU, will once again be active as V31SU from Belize between February 26th and March 15th. Activity will be mainly 40-20 meters using CW, SSB and PSK31. Operations will be from various locations which including Caye Caulker, Orange Walk Town, San Ignacio and Gales Point. V4, ST. KITTS
Jon, W5JON, will be active again as V47JA from his Calypso Bay vacation home, located 300 feet from the Caribbean Sea (CQ Zone:8, IOTA NA-104, Grid FK87pg), between February 28th and March 28th, 2012. Activity will be on 80-6 meters SSB, including 60 meters. He plans to operate in both the ARRL International DX SSB Contest (March 3-4th) and the CQ WPX SSB Contest (March 24-25th), as a Single-Op/All-Band entry. The station's equipment is a Kenwood TS-590S, Yaesu FT-857D, and SB200 amplifier. Antennas are a 80-10m multi-band dipole, metal roof (called "Galvalume", which the vertical uses as the ground radials) with mounted S9 (18 ft. and 31 ft. verticals) and a 6m 3 element yagi. Look for his XYL Cathy, W5HAM, to also be active occasionally as V4/W5HAM. All QSLs go to his home callsign, W5JON. Also LoTW.

XU, CAMBODIA
A group of JA operators plan to be active from Sihanoukville between January 14-22nd. Operators mentioned are Masumi/JA3AVO (XU7AVO), Takeo/JA3BZO (XU7AEN), Kunio/JA1CJA/JH3LSS (XU7CJA), Tsuguya/JA3UJR (XU7UJR), Shozo/JA3HJI (XU7HJI pending) and Tatsuo/JA3ARJ (XU7ARJ pending). YV0, AVES ISLAND
The 4M5DX Group states that they are still looking for no more than 7 or 12 days to operate from Aves Island (NA-020, ARLHS AVE-001, WLOTA L-0216) with transportation from the Venezuela Navy.
