DXpedition group which specializes in 100 watt or less low power radios
and Buddipole portable antenna systems is going to Barbados (NA-021) and
will be active between January 29th and February 6th. Operators mentioned
are Mike/KC4VG (8P9VG), Weymouth/K8EAB (8P9EA), Paul/KB9AVO (8P9DG),
Daniel/WZ1P (8P9WZ), Budd/W3FF (8P9FF), Chris/W6HFP (8P9HF), Guy/N7UN
(8P9UN) and Steve/WG0AT (8P9RT).
There will be 3 villa stations during the operation on 160-10 meters using CW, SSB, and RTTY or PSK. The equip- ment used this year will be four Elecraft KX3, two Yaesu 857-D and two Icom IC-7000 transceivers. All members will use Buddipole portable HF/VHF antennas in both horizontal and vertical configurations at 100 watts or less. At the same time, several teams will be battery-only, field portable either from Barbados beaches or scenic mountain tops and will sign call/p.
They state, "Our goal is to demonstrate 'ultralite' DXpeditioning into magnificent 'vista' locations, operating field portable battery-only radios with backpackable, lightweight antennas and most of all 'having fun' with a number of local operators from a 5-star Villa near the ocean." QSL via LoTW or to the operator’s home callsign (w/SASE).
9X, RWANDA
Carl, SM6CPY, will be active as 9X0PY from Rwanda between
January 15-31st. Activity will be holiday style on all bands, if possible
depending on antenna possibilities, using mainly CW listening up 25 kHz
and operating with 100 watts. QSL via his home callsign, direct or by
the Bureau.
AFRICAN TOUR
Operators Steve/HA0DU and Laci/HA0NAR plan to be on an
African tour to Guinea Bissau (J5) and Senegal (6V) starting next month
and to be active as J5NAR and 6V2R. They will start their journey in
Cabrousse (South-Senegal). From there they will drive to Guinea-Bissau
and expect to be on the air around February 9th. Additionally, they also
plan to activate (in February) Carabane Island (AF-078) with the callsign
6V2R/P and Jeta Island (AF-093) with J5NAR/P. On their QRZ.com page they
state, "We would like to remind you that the entire trip and stay on
islands is paid in full by each of the operators and that any contribution/
support will help us to reduce the high logistical costs." Their PayPal
account is ha0nar@hotmail.com QSL for both J5NAR and 6V2R go to Laci,
HA0NAR (direct or by the Bureau). For details and updates, watch the Web
page at:
ARCTIC/ANTARCTIC INFO NEEDED!
John, KL7JR, is requesting that if you or
any of your radio friends, SWL or Ham operator, has worked or heard any
Arctic or Antarctic stations, he would love to hear from you for his
monthly Arctic and Antarctic DX column which goes to CIDX (Canadian
Int'l. DX Club) for publication in the monthly Messenger. Scanned copies
of QSLs or reception reports from anywhere north of 60 degrees or the
Antarctica are also welcomed. You can receive a sample of his column by
E-mailing him at: KL7JR@yahoo.com
CS8/CT8, AZORES

DAYTON HAMVENTION NEWS
From Bill Salyers, AJ8B, AJ8B@arrl.net --
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - "The SouthWest Ohio DX Association (SWODXA) is
pleased to announce that we will again sponsor the DX Dinner ™, held in
conjunction with the 2013 Dayton Hamvention®. This, our 28th annual dinner,
will be on Friday, May 17th, 2013, at the Dayton Marriott, 1414 S. Patterson
Blvd., Dayton, OH 45409.
There will be a cash bar starting at 5:30 p.m., with dinner served at 7:00. Following the meal, there will be a separate room and cash bar available for more fellowship. This is an excellent opportunity to meet new hams, and renew old acquaintances, as well as learn about past DXpeditions and those in the planning stages.
The Marriott is very accommodating to a group our size. The dining room is on the ground floor so there are no steps, the dining room is very large, and there is ample free, on-site parking.
This dinner is always well attended by some of the most avid DXers in the world. As in the past, there will be some major door prizes, and there is always great anticipation as to who will be named the 'DXpedition of the Year'.
The Marriott is a large hotel with many room choices. Should you need accommodations, their website is
http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/dayoh-dayton-marriott and their phone number is 937 223-1000.
Details and dinner reservation information can be found on the SWODXA Events
website
Program details and a list of the prizes will be on the website as they
become available and updates will be sent out regularly via Twitter. Check

ZL7, CHATHAM ISLANDS (Update) The QTH is within 100 meters of the sea, so DX
should be hot. The frequencies will be the standard PSK frequencies of
7035, 14070, 21070 and 28120 kHz. Jim states [edited], "I'll normally be
operating on the highest working frequency. If/when a pileup develops,
callers will be asked to work SPLIT and transmit 100 - 400Hz higher. For
ZL contacts, there is a chance of SSB on 3677 kHz between 0700-0800z,
but it depends upon the PSK activity. The IOTA is OC-038, the grid locator
AE16ug and the nearby lighthouse (1km away) is CHA009. ClubLog will be
uploaded about 24 hours later, as there is no internet at the QTH. All
QSLs are direct to ZL1LC and further updates will be on the ZL7LC (QRZ.com)
page."
