5J0, SAN ANDRES (Reminder)

2F-FA, 1X Tennadyne T6 Log Per., 2X NA4RR Hexbeams and 1 X Inverted L

A3, TONGA
Masa, JA0RQV, will once again be active from Tonga. This time
he will activate Niuatoputapu Island (OC-191) at the very small northern
end of Tongan territory, and will signing as A35JP/P between May 28th
and June 3rd. Operations will be on 80-6 meters using CW and SSB. His
equipment is an IC-7000 (w/100W) into a vertical antenna. Activity will
be limited and much is depending on the availability of electric power
since there is no commercial electric power at all. He must find a gen-
erator or car battery. In case his flight is cancelled, Masa will be
active from Vava'u Island (OC-064) or Tongatapu Island (OC-049) instead.

1) The online magazine DxCoffee (Authorization & Registration: Court of Vibo Valentia -Italy n. 3, March 20, 2012) establishes the "Best Communications Award By DxCoffee."* Transient rule: the first Award will be presented in 2014 to a 2013 DxPedition.
2) The prize is located at the Office of the Publisher for DxCoffee (Association LineaPunto).
3) DxCoffee calls a Committee for the "Best Communication Award by DxCoffee", presided over by an Award Manager and DxCoffee's Chief Editor. Members of the Committee are the DxCoffee staff members and those who forward their application to the Committee's Presidency.
4) The Committee annually presents the "Best Communication Award" to the best DxPedition (team or a single operator) among the operations that took place during the preceding year.
5) Operations to be evaluated include those that have been most diligent in managing and promulgating information through the means of communi- cation and have shown a marked communications ability (website, use of languages, press releases, bulletins, blogs, articles, pictures, logos, news usability, etc...).
6) The Committee shall make public the reasons for Award selection.
7) Under special circumstances, more than one Award could be presented for the same year.
8) All decisions are final.
9) The Award is presented free of charge.
10) DxCoffee institutes the "Best Communication Award" honor roll.

EA6, BALEARIC ISLANDS
By the time you read this, Francois, ON4LO, should
be active as EA6/ON4LO/P from Mallorca Island (EU-005) until May 15th.
Activity will be on 40-10 meters using SSB. He also plans to activate

HERITAGE DAY 2014 (Without any borders)
Being one of the most important
heritage events in Flanders and Brussels, the 2014 Heritage Day will be
held on April 27th. This year's motto is "without any borders".
With the slogan "A World of Dits and Dahs" the Belgian IARU Society UBA takes part in this event emphasizing Morse code as cultural heritage.
Between April 15th and May 14th, ten special event stations will be active from various locations: OS10M, OS11M, OS12M, OS13M, OS14M, OS15M, OS16M, OS17M, OS18M and OS19M. QSL cards will automatically be sent out via the QSL Bureau. An online log is available at

HI, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC (NA-096)
By the time you read this, Juergen,
DL4SDW, will be active as homecall/HI3 from the Villa Gonzales until
May 15th. His activity on the HF bands will be mostly CW using 100 watts
into wire antennas. QSL via his home callsign, by the Bureau (preferred)

IOTA NEWS
AS-143. A group of Chinese hams will be active from the rare Yongxing
Island, Paracel Islands, sometime between April 21st and May
10th. The actual operation period depends on the schedule of
the ship. Only one radio is allowed to be on the air 24 hours
around the clock due to the limit of operators by the local
authority. The assigned callsign will be B7CRA. Operators
mentioned are Terry/BA7NQ, Che/BA7CK, De/BA7JA, Dick/BD7YC,
Lin/BI7IOB and Vange/BA7IO. Equipment listed: 2xICOM 756PRO3
with 2x1KFA, 2xSB and 1 GP. QSL via BA4EG.
EU-032. Didier, F4ELJ, will be active as F4ELJ/P from Oleron Island (DIFM AT-025) between May 3-10th. Activity will be on the HF bands. QSL via his home callsign, direct, by the Bureau or LoTW.
EU-047. Oliver, DK7TX, will be active as DK7TX/P from Spiekeroog Island between June 11-17th. Activity will be mostly on 20/15/10 meters. QSL via his home callsign, by the Bureau or eQSL.
OC-218. Operators Cezar/VE3LYC and Johan/PA3EXX will attempt to activate Matthew Island for a period of 4 days during the 10 days of September. The licensing authority of New Caledonia has approved for this operation the special callsign TX4A. Last operation from this IOTA took place 17 years ago, and the group is in demand by 94% of the IOTA members. Due to the remote location of this island, sailing from Noumea to Matthew Island return is expected to take 5 days. This will be not only a very difficult, but also very expensive project. The team is actively looking for financial support from groups and individuals who wish to assist in defraying some of the project costs. OC-122/
OC-109. A team of four to five operators led by John/YB5NOF and Anton/
YB5QZ are planning to activate Tambelan Islands as YE5T starting
around May 10th for 10 days. Some of the team may also activate
Natuna Selatan Islands (OC-109) during this time. QSL via W2FB,
direct or by the Bureau.
NORTH/SOUTH AMERICAN AND GREY NOMAD DX VACATION
To celebrate 31 years
of DXing, Mal, VK6LC, will start a Northern American tour for 34 days
through the W6, W7, W9 and W4 areas between May 1-31st, signing area/VK6LC
on an Amtrak Railway on 146.520 MHz FM. He will then join up with Pedro,
HK3JJH, in what they are calling a "Grey Nomad DX Vacation" to celebrate
their 20 year reunion of DXing for the month of June. Mal will be in South
America for 42 days. These two well known retired Island DXpeditioners
will then travel and activate the Amazon as HK9 and the San Andres, HK0.

P4, ARUBA
John, W2GD, will be active as P44W from Aruba (SA-036) during
the CQWW WPX CW Contest (May 24-25th) as a Single-Op/All-Band/Low-Power
entry. He will be there between May 22-28th. Operations outside of the
contest are usually on 160/80m and 30/17/12 meters as time permits. Watch

upon their return. Many log correction requests have been received by
Chris and Steve, N3SL, their Manager. We will take care of the edits,
don't worry. The OQRS option via ClubLog will NOT be enabled until
later in the year - likely November or December. In the meantime,

ZL7AAA 10M SSB QSO TIME GLITCH. If you have been puzzled or wondering why your 10m QSO is not in the log and cannot get a QSL via the OQRS, OPDX was informed about a log glitch in the ZL7AAA 10m QSO times. The operator used local time in the log instead of Zulu. ClubLog is rejecting QSOs if Zulu time is used/input for the OQRS.

S0, WESTERN SAHARA (Update)
Naama, S01A, has delayed his activity until
early May because he did not receive the new equipment and antennas in time.
Operators S01A, S01WS (club station "Amateur Radio Union Sahrawi") and S01AH
are expected to receive their equipment at the end of April. Having over-
come the technical and installation of multiple antennas problems, the
maximum expected operating bands will be on 80-6 meters. They will be
using three bazooka antennas, one for 60 meters. Naama apologizes
for the short activity on March 9th. An equipment failure prevented him
from continuing his activity. It is important to note that this DXpedition
from the "Radio Club Amateur Radio Union of Sahrawi" (URS) is to help
the Sahrawi operators develop their hobby on minimum technical conditions.
Operators Naama/S01A, Man/S01AH and the URS/S01WS will operate on 60
meters, on 5366.5, 5371.5, 5380.5, 5398.5 and 5403.5 kHz USB. Naama and
Man have a license to operate CW on this band on 5.368, 5.373, 5.382 and
5.405 kHz. It is suggested to watch the following for updates and news:
TK1, CORSICA
An Italian group calling themselves "NOLOGO Independent DXers"
will be on a "Springbreak Expedition" operating as TK1R from Corsica between
April 30th and May 4th. Operators mentioned are Tony/IZ2ESV, Andrea/IZ2LSC,
Ivano/I2RFJ, Bruno/IW3HXR, Claudio/IK3HAR and Alberto/IV3BSY. Activity will
have an emphasis on the Digital modes and the 30/17/12m bands. The group
also plans to be an entry in the ARI International DX Contest (May 3-4th).

TK4, CORSICA
Julien, F4FJZ, will be active as TK4QL from Corsica between
May and October. Activity will be mostly mobile as TK4QL/M with operations
on 17/15/12/10 meters using his FT-840 with 100 watts and a mobile antennas.

QSL only direct or eQSL.
VK9MT (Final Press Release - Mellish Reef 2014)Dated April 17th [edited]:
VK9MT Mellish Reef was activated on 30th March at 04:34z with ZL4PW first in the log and went QRT on 4th April at 1353z with JL1MTY closing the log.73, Team Mellish 2014Our decision to leave the island didn’t come easily; safety was always the first priority. Just as the last QSO was made it became clear we could not remain on the island another day. It was 01:00 (local) when the rain began. The wind was blowing at about 35 - 40 knots; we had water infil- trating the operating tents and the antennas were taking a severe beating. Over the 6 days we were on the island the weather grew progressively worse each day.
After a short meeting the on-island operators decided to QRT and begin packing the equipment in pelican cases for protection. We spent the next several hours packing equipment using head and hand torches.
When the Zodiac arrived for the 6AM shift change we began taking down the antennas and tents. Once the storm was officially declared Cyclone Ita there was no question we made the correct decision.
Our 10 day goal was 80,000 QSOs and as much RTTY as possible. In 5 days we made 40,000 Qs which put us on track for the original target.

The team of eleven operators and five boat crew worked well together. The measure of success isn’t how well one follows the plan but instead how we react to the unplanned. The weather required significant plan changes. Until we arrived at the reef the skipper was unable to determine if nighttime travel to and from the reef was possible. As it turned out, because of the many coral heads, the reef could only be travelled during daylight hours when the underwater coral was visible.
We watched Mellish Reef weather for weeks before leaving but Cyclone Ita required us to improvise, adapt and overcome. We knew things would get worse as reports of death and destruction came in from the Solomon Islands.
While disappointed, we are happy to have given ATNOs, band fills and to have put people on the Honor Roll and Top of the Honor Roll.
We appreciate the support from the corporate sponsors, foundations, clubs and the individual donors. When the books are closed we’ll provide an accounting to the clubs and foundations.
The team received many e-mails from the global DX community; we thank you for your concern, kind words and understanding.

On Tuesday, April 22nd, a team of
operators will activate W100AW on 30-10 meters using CW as propagation
permits. There will be two sessions. First from approximately 1400-1600z
and the second from 1700-1945z. QSL via LoTW. For paper QSLs: Please do
not send any QSL cards for W1AW/x portable operations, W100AW, or W1HQ
to ARRL via the Bureau. While they appreciate the thought, they do not
have room to store or file them and would rather you have fun working
