CY9C ST. PAUL ISLAND DXPEDITION (Update). By the time you read this, the
CY9C operation should be starting to shut down or are QRT. They reported
on Saturday -- "St. Paul was hit by an intense thunderstorm at 0300Z this
morning.... Operations were disrupted but all is up and running this
morning.... The team is tired but otherwise in good spirits."
Sunday morning Murray, WA4DAN, sent out the following: "The departure
plans for the CY9C DXpedition team have been finalized. Limited operations
have taken place at the Northeast Island this morning but will be shut
down soon. The Atlantic Cove team has two stations operational until late
this evening. The team helicopter is flying this morning and will continue
today as it is taking most of the electronics back to Dingwall. The boats
will be coming to Atlantic Cove late this afternoon and loading a lot of
the gear stored on the island.
Shortly after sunrise on Monday morning the boat will take the remaining
ops and gear off the island officially closing the CY9C DXpedition.
The team reports approximately 60K contacts in the log. A final tally
will take place after the conclusion of the DXpedition.
Today and tomorrow will be very hectic for the team but an update will
take place Monday afternoon or evening.
It was a pleasure working the thousands of deserving DX'ers.
  .... 73, Murray WA4DAN"

REALTIME BAND CONDITIONS WEB SITE :
The purpose of this experimental Web site is to provide 24-7-365 actual
(REALTIME) band condition information to CW QRPp, QRPe and CW/SSB for
Contesters interested in increasing their scores. It can also be of
benefit to other Radio Amateurs to determine band conditions for Nets
and casual QSO's. This information is NOT based on any software pre-
dictions or any kind of satellite based readings. It is based on a
new Ionospheric sounding method called "HF Ionospheric Interferometry"
which operates very similarly to the PolSAR system used by NASA.

  73, Steve Romagni, W4DTA – Pilot station for YX0V

This was followed by another message by Steve the next day (25th)
showing a satellite photo that the Navy was concerned about setting sail to
YV0 this past weekend. The photo showed that YV0 was pretty much near the
area where hurricanes love to form this time of the year, and at the moment
there are two just too close. Steve, mentions, "When I was there in 1992,
the island at high tide almost disappears, I can imagine with these storms
around how it will look. You all remember safety comes first. I want to
remind you and the dx community that this is the same team that lost one
operator on YV0 from cardiac arrest. So we are very aware of what can happen
in this type of operations. As soon as I get more details I will let you
all know..." Then later in the day Steve sent out: "YX0V is very thankful
for all of the donations, emails, and calls received regarding the oper-
ation. They are still working hard, and the team is ready to go when the
Navy says go. At the moment weather is a big factor at the moment with
two tropical storms near YV0. The team has asked to please hold on any
kind of donations until after the operation has started. I will inform
you all when that is as well."
