HEARD ISLAND (Special Issue of DX Magazine). Bob, KK6EK, reports: Team
and Friends -- If you subscribe to DX Magazine, you probably have received
your Jan/Feb 2017 copy, and see that it is a special issue devoted (almost)
entirely to VK0EK, the 2016 expedition to Heard Island.
We thank the Editor (for 20 years!) Carl N4AA for this honor. As you
will see, the six articles cover more than the radio operation; they also
describe the spectacular field observations on Heard Island and the infotech
we developed and deployed (the other two major parts of the project). I also
took the opportunity to opine on the past and future of DXing and DX-
peditions. I think the issue will stand as an historical documentary of an
historic project, and I again congratulate and thank everyone who had a
hand in making it happen.
If you do not subscribe to DX Magazine, I will be happy to send you a
printed copy (the publisher supplied me with 100). If you have names or
radio callsigns of other deserving people, let me know and I’ll send them
a copy as well. Just reply and provide me with mailing addresses.
BTW, you can download the entire Final Report (264 pp) at
 [click /DOCUMENTS/], or directly HERE:
.
     Happy New Year!

REALTIME BAND CONDITIONS WEB SITE :
The purpose of this experimental Web site is to provide 24-7-365 actual
(REALTIME) band condition information to CW QRPp, QRPe and CW/SSB for
Contesters interested in increasing their scores. It can also be of
benefit to other Radio Amateurs to determine band conditions for Nets
and casual QSO's. This information is NOT based on any software pre-
dictions or any kind of satellite based readings. It is based on a
new Ionospheric sounding method called "HF Ionospheric Interferometry"
which operates very similarly to the PolSAR system used by NASA.
