DAY-XENIA HAMVENTION WRAP-UP NEWS.........
  * During the Southwest Ohio DX Association (SWODXA) annual DX Dinner
it was announced that the VK0EK Heard Island was awarded "DXpedition?
    of the Year". See:
       https://vk0ek.org/2017/05/21/swodxa-2017-dxpedition-of-the-year
Also at the dinner, Bill Moore, NC1L (SK), was inducted into the
"CQ DX Hall of Fame" as well as Jerry, WB9Z.

  * HAMVENTION (Review By Editor) -- The Xenia HamVention put on by the
DARA group this year should be commended for their quick replacement
of Hara Arena. Yes, there were a few bugs during their first run,
but I am sure these will be corrected in the future. The major
problems seem to be traffic flow, muddy flea market/parking areas
and some complaints about the heat in the buildings. The vendor lay-
outs in the buildings seemed to be sufficient. One of the big improve-
ments was the selection of many different food vendors. Probably the
low point of the HamVention was the rain which definitely hampered
the field market area. Some individuals didn't even attempt to go
to that area because of the mud. In all, the new venue was well
attended, and most reports on the internet were very favorable.
Your editor looks forward to seeing next year's HamVention.

REALTIME BAND CONDITIONS WEB SITE :
The purpose of this experimental Web site is to provide 24-7-365 actual
(REALTIME) band condition information to CW QRPp, QRPe and CW/SSB for
Contesters interested in increasing their scores. It can also be of
benefit to other Radio Amateurs to determine band conditions for Nets
and casual QSO's. This information is NOT based on any software pre-
dictions or any kind of satellite based readings. It is based on a
new Ionospheric sounding method called "HF Ionospheric Interferometry"
which operates very similarly to the PolSAR system used by NASA.

THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS NEEDED. It was announced earlier in the week by
Bernie McClenny, W3UR, Editor of The Daily DX, The Weekly DX and QST's
How's DX?, that he has temporarily stopped the presses at The Daily DX
and The Weekly DX to devote as much time as possible to be with his mom
and family. His mother (Claudia) has been fighting cancer since last fall,
and Bernie (with his family) would like to devote more time with his
mother during her final days. OPDX and its readers would like to send
out our thoughts and prayers to the McClenny family during this sad time.

V4, ST. KITTS. John, W5JON/V47JA, informs OPDX that he will once again
be active as V47JA from his vacation home in Calypso Bay, St. Kitts
