A52BH BHUTAN CLOSED (Update/Dated November 6th). Martti, OH2BH, sent out
the following from Thimphu, Bhutan [edited]:
A52BH CLOSED DOWN 00.00 UTC MONDAY -- What a wonderful time it was with
people of Bhutan. There is no doubt that these people care and make their
visitors feel welcome. When I opted to stay here for an additional five
days after my CQWW fellow operators had left, I did not know what lay
ahead. Now I know that visiting my last Asian country was a very rich
experience. It was no wonder that the late Gus Browning, W4BPD, stayed
here much longer than normal during those other years.
Radio wise, I set a quota of 1000 QSOs per day to reach the 5000 mark,
which I did this morning at 19.00 UTC, with LA4LN being the last one. As
the bands are closed for most of the daylight hours, this target gave me
plenty of time to socialize with people; not only with locals, but also
with a group of 23 American youth from Colorado, who arrived here and
lived with me at the Royal Thimphu College (RTC).
Openings to the U.S. were challenging, as every day was different from
the others. On two days, I was able catch a good opening on 30M. Forty
meters was the other band that helped me reach the U.S. The pileups were
huge in those narrow windows with a multi-echo. Twenty meters was dis-
appointing, as it did not open anywhere during my stay.
I will have the QSOs on ClubLog upon my return home. On my way, there
will be another stop-over - in Bangkok - to meet Champ, E21EIC.
I would like to thank Zorro, JH1AJT, with the SEISA group for allowing
me to use the A5A station and for sorting out those needed formalities,
as entering Bhutan is not an everyday fiesta. Having Zorros endorsement
and support made my stay one to be remembered.

wires/verticals. Operations will also include the CQWW DX CW Contest
(November 24-25th) as a Single-Op/All-Band/Low-Power/Assisted entry.
QSL via his home callsign, direct (with sufficient postage) or by the
Bureau.

D4, CAPE VERDE. Jose, CT1BOH, will be active as D41CV from the D4C contest
station on Sao Vicente Island (AF-086) during the CQWW DX CW Contest

LoTW, eQSL or IK2NCJ by the Bureau. DIRECT QSL to: MONTEVERDE CONTEST
CLUB, 6963 Pregassona, Switzerland. For the latest information, check
the D4C Web page at: http://www.d4c.cc

GREEN KEYS NIGHT. Jeff, WK6I, announces the following: The Greenkeys
online group is happy to announce the first-ever "Green Keys Night" (GKN),
to be held concurrent with "Straight Key Night" on January 1st, 2019, from
0000 to 2359 UTC. As with SKN, GKN is an event and not a contest.
"Greenkeys" is not a reference to eco-friendly operating - though members
certainly are keen on equipment recycling - but rather is a group dedicated
to the restoration and use of vintage mechanical teleprinters and related
equipment. The term "greenkeys" itself refers to the color of the keys on
Teletype machines.
Participants are encouraged to get on the air and simply make enjoyable,
conversational RTTY QSOs. Operate on all authorized Amateur frequencies.
Please follow established band plans and be mindful of SKN QSOs. RTTY modes
only. Call "CQ GKN".
The use of mechanical teleprinters is preferred, or simply get on the
air with the oldest equipment you can scrape together. Real heavy metal
Teletypes to be sure, but if that isn't available: analog hardware modems,
VT100 terminals, pre-Windows computers, etc. And vacuum tubes. ;) And maybe
fire up that boatanchor rig that never gets enough air time.
Please no brag tapes/files. Please no pre-recorded messages. Have a real
conversation by hand typing it keyboard to keyboard. If you are slow we'll
happily wait. (A CQ macro is okay but you would have better bragging rights
if you hand typed that too.)
But even if you don't have any old equipment, do get on the air and have
some fun QSOs the old fashioned way!
E-mail to let us know you participated. There are
no points scored, but if you'd like to share with us your favorite or
most interesting QSO (worked or heard), your log, and what equipment you
operated with (including photos), please do.
Please note that there is a RTTY contest concurrent with GKN, the SARTG
New Year RTTY Contest. The contest runs from 0800 to 1100 UTC. As long as
you have your RTTY working why not join in the contest and then return to
more GKN fun! (For info: )
The Greenkeys online group is an email list devoted to the discussion
of older radio teletype (RTTY) gear including mechanical teleprinters
(Teletype, Kleinschmidt, etc.), terminal units, paper tape, gears, cams,
oil, and anything else related to TTY/RTTY. To join the group, visit
.
For more information, E-mail . And please do forward
this announcement to your local club or interest group.

IOTA NEWS..............
  NA-004. (Update/Change on K6VVA/KL7 QRX'd) -- "After much serious
deliberation of multiple factors, I have made a strategic
decision to QRX my scheduled NA-004 activation until late
           Spring or early Summer 2019.
The sub-freezing temperatures during mostly dark hours now
in this 70+ Degrees North Latitude Polar Bear part of KL7 are
not friendly to outside antenna repairs in the event of un-
           foreseen problems.
And since propagation from NA-004 this month will be mostly
on 40m, I also believe too many Little Pistol IOTA Chaser QSOs
would not happen without availability of 20m as the primary
           band to all Geo-Areas.
I am not looking forward to canceling all my plane flights,
but believe this temporary QRX will benefit more of those who
need NA-004 when the activation is rescheduled.
This is a (QRX) postponement, and NOT a cancellation !!!
           73, Rick - K 6 V V A * The Locust"

OC-093. Operators Audie/DU1ZDR and Gazelle/DU1ZDQ will be active as
DZ1A/DU2 from Basco Batanes, Batanes Islands, between November
19-20th. They suggest to listen for them on 7055 and 14260
kHz. QSL via their home callsign.

PLEASE NOTE: Since the Webmasters of the new have
decided NOT to post or dedicate a Web page to announce upcoming IOTA
operations, PLEASE send your IOTA operations information to the OPDX,
and we will post it here in an upcoming bulletin......

VP6D DUCIE ISLAND DXPEDITION NEWS (Update from Papeete, Tahiti, dated
November 7th). -- WOW, what an experience. We arrived Papeete late Tuesday
after an uneventful (but long) 4 hour flight from Mangareva, French
Polynesia.
The team is in good spirits, we've been receiving hundreds of e-mails
sent by the DX community, thank you for the positive comments.
Of course, we were disappointed to leave Ducie early, but when you see
the video of our island departure we think you'll agree it was the right
decision. There is no harbor at Ducie, Braveheart used different landing
and extraction points based on the winds, tide and the seas. Safety is
always the primary concern, and while it was not raining, changing sea
conditions presented the crew with challenges to remove the team and
equipment without incident.
Our log management team in Europe have all but one log that contains
523 QSOs, we will send that file in the next day or so. Internet at our
hotel is not robust enough to work the logs. Many of you have sent e-mail
to our personal e-mail accounts and to the VP6D.com mailbox regarding
busted calls and other log problems.. Those will be read and addressed
beginning this weekend, it can not be done from Tahiti.
We will spend the next 2 days relaxing and repacking our bags before
the long flights home.
Thanks for the the wonderful pileups, and thanks to the Braveheart crew
that made this a safe and exciting DX-pedition for the team and the DX
community.
  73, Team Ducie 2018

All logs are now audited and on the server. Per their Web page, on
November 11th, at 2200z, they made 112027 QSOs and 24969/Uniques. Mode
