Pete, MM0TWX, posted the following interesting info on eHAM.net about "The True Blue DXers Club's" new "Bands Alive -- 2021 CW/SSB DX Ultra-Marathon": As the new solar cycle is now underway and conditions on the HF bands are expected to gradually improve throughout 2021, this unprecedented initiative is launched to give DXers a further motivation to get on the air and therefore support, improve and promote amateur activity using person-to-person modes of communication such as CW and SSB. This initiative, which we call "ultra-marathon" for a reason, is indeed unprecedented – its aim, reflected in its format, is to get people on the air and make as many unique contacts as possible over the duration of a full year, and not simply to work as many countries as possible. You will find a 5 minute introductory video, full rules for participation and the possibility of pre-registering at: https://www.tbdxc.net/marathon For those seeking a more rapid understanding, the description and rules, go to: https://9c20a4b4-d46c-4d96-8571-60b68bfe6f69.filesusr.com/ugd/bc48c0_de6500caf1f04c498702e02c46432e1e.pdf DXCC'S MOST WANTED (ClubLog). FALKLAND ISLANDS, SOUTH GEORGIA AND ANTARCTIC VP8 AMATEUR RADIO LICENSING (Press Release by Chris, G3WOS/VP8DBL/VP8WOS)[edited]..... * Non-resident lifetime Falkland Islands VP8 licenses (common sense prevails) -- An element of the new 2017 Falkland Islands Communication Ordinance was a desire to bring "amateur radio licensing in the Falk- land Islands into the 21st Century" through a re-validation exercise of VP8 licenses which started in early 2020. However, a new requirement was included in the new VP8 License Terms & Conditions. For an existing VP8 license to be revalidated, a minimum 6-month residency in the Falkland Islands was now required. This lead to all non-resident VP8 licenses failing the revalidation exercise and being canceled as a result. Following an email exchange with the Falkland Islands Communications Regulator, he stated that he considered the case closed. I raised a complaint about this decision in the form of a 'Notice of Appeal'. This was due to be heard in the Falkland Islands Magistrates Court in November 2020. The case will not now proceed to court after all as the Regulator has decided to restore my Falkland Islands VP8 licenses and apply the same principle to other non-resident lifetime VP8 license holders on a "case-by-case" basis. My costs will be paid as well.. The full story can be read here – "Non-resident lifetime Falkland Islands VP8 licenses – common sense prevails": https://openfalklands.co.uk * South Georgia and Antarctic VP8 Amateur Radio Licensing -- Following the recent cancellation and subsequent restoration of Chris Gare's non-resident lifetime VP8 Falkland Islands licenses, the associated cancellation of all VP8 Antarctic & South Georgia licenses is now in the spotlight. The full story can be read here – South Georgia and Antarctic VP8 Amateur Radio licensing: https://openfalklands.co.uk For further information contact: Chris, G3WOS -- chris@openfalklands.org.fk or Alan, VP8PJ -- alancheshire@yahoo.com Written by Chris Gare, G3WOS/VP8DBL/VP8WOS -------------------------------------------- IOTA NEWS. Additionally, they will benefit from their contacts being uploaded and available for QSO matching 30 days after the expedition. I will be working with Alfio (IT9EJW), who will do the QSL design and printing, to ensure that direct QSL requests will be mailed by early January 2021. Meanwhile, the respective contacts will also be uploaded and available for QSO matching within 60 days of the operation." For more details and updates, see: https://tx0t.weebly.com PLEASE NOTE: Since the Webmasters of the newhave decided NOT to post or dedicate a Web page to announce upcoming IOTA operations, PLEASE send your IOTA operations information to the OPDX, and we will post it here in an upcoming bulletin...... JD1, MINAMI TORISHIMA. Take, JG8NQJ, will once again be active as JG8NQJ/JD1 from Marcus Island in the Minami Torishima (OC-073, JCG 10007) group between October 14th and mid-January 2021. He is usually there to work on the island's weather station. Activity will be limited to his spare time. He will usually be mainly on 17 meters, but will also be on 20/15/ 12/10/6 meters using CW (possibly RTTY), with a Yaesu FT-450 and 50W. QSL via JA8CJY or by the Bureau via JG8NQJ. JX2, JAN MAYEN ISLAND (Update to OPDX.1481). Erik, LA2US/JW2US, who is expected to be active as JX2US from Olonkin City, Jan Mayen Island (EU-022), between October 2020 and March 2021, is now on Jan Mayen as of October 1st. Do not look for him right away because his first few days will be used for training and settling-in. QSL only via ClubLog's OQRS, at: https://clublog.org/logsearch/JX2US QSL card service via the OQRS (ClubLog) will open when he returns home in April 2021. Upload to LoTW will be after he returns home. IMPORTANT: Do not send direct QSL requests to Jan Mayen by mail! Erik will not handle any QSL card requests while he is on Jan Mayen. JX0X JAN MAYEN ISLAND DXPEDITION NEWS (Update). The JX0X team announced this past week the following on September 29th [edited]: "We had a team meeting today, within the next 3-4 weeks we will decide if we go or not to JX. Unfortunately the financial situation for the project is such that it is still too risky for us to sign the Vessel contract. During the last 3 months we have received 8900 USDs from individuals. Our budget is still 105,000 USDs ++. We believe that JX2US is not a competitor to us when it comes to the QSO handling, as he will stay close to the base and mainly work 12-15.000 Qs (EU/SA). NA will be blocked from his QTH. We still offer 100% refund if you donate and we later cancel. So if you want the JX0X 2021 DXped to happen - it is time to send a small paypal contribution within the next few weeks." Since then, the following was reported on October 3rd: "We have received about $3500 in two days. But we’re looking for another approx $7000 to sign the contract. Still any shortfall is covered by the 6 operators. Facts about JX0X: * Did you know that Jan Mayen turned into a Nature reserve in 2010? And that the whole island including the surrounding sea is protected, except the base at the EU side and a small area on the western part (towards NA)? * There are plans to close down the area on the western side - which means this could very well be the last chance for a good NA low band QTH if the plans are implemented * The Ministry have said they will never allow any DXpedition to take place from inside the Nature reserve * We were not allowed to conduct a DXpedition with a camp at the EU side" They appreciate all the support! Please donate using paypal at: jx0x@la7gia.com ONE LAST LOOK :( For those who attended the Dayton HamVention for many years, here is the final look at Hara Arena in Trotwood on Thursday, September 24th.
