3Y0J BOUVET ISLAND DXPEDITION NEWS (Press Release #11 ?from 3Y0J team??,
dated August 30th)[edited]. Amateur Radio DXpeditions (ARD) is making
great progress for our upcoming 3Y0J Bouvet DXpedition! With only four
months left until we go onshore Bouvet, we approach September that will
come with two major milestones for us.
One major milestone is the shipping of the Container from Norway that
is scheduled on September 18th. From Oslo the container will be shipped
to Falkland Island where a team of local hams lead by Don VP8ON will
make an effort to inspect the content before our arrival.
The 3Y0J team is currently busy packing all our equipment at our staging
site at Oslo airport, where we for the next few weeks will finalize the
packing of the equipment. This will end an extremely busy period for us.
We have been through 12 months of purchasing, assembling, testing, and
packing the equipment. The team has worked hard, and ultimately shipping
the container will complete this intensive period of work that will enable
us to achieve our goal to activate the rare #2 DXCC Bouvetøya. Rest assured
this is a well-planned DXpedition!
We have detailed out the logistic plan and have made a few changes. Among
the improvements are:
* We have bought yet another outboard engine enabling us to use two
zodiac boats simultaneously during beach landing to speed up the
unloading of gear. In addition, we have a 3rd spare zodiac and engine.
Having a pair of zodiak's is a great advantage to us as we have de-
veloped a plan for going onshore Bouvet even for a short weather
window down to 2h.
* We have swapped the Yanmar generators with 5 kW Hyundai generators
that will enable us to run full station setup with only 2 out of 4
diesel gens. It means that we are less dependent on a long duration
of good weather to achieve a good setup.
* We have carried out a risk analysis and identified 37 hazards and
assessed the risk for each hazard. 10 hazards are identified as "high"
risk and 17 "medium", all which have been mitigated to an acceptable
residual risk level. We have prepared a plan for rationing of food
and water in case resupplies are difficult, and when we unload oper-
ators and equipment onshore Bouvet, they will be self-sufficient for
28 days without needing resupplies.
The second milestone for September is the payment of the 3rd deposit
for the Marama contract. This payment is a major commitment from the
team and our sponsors individual and clubs, that we together will make
this happen. We thank each and every one of you who have contributed to
pay a share of the vessel cost to have the opportunity to work Bouvet.
We still need $70,000 to be able to go to Bouvet. If you want to see

4W, TIMOR LESTE (Update). Satoshi, JH2EUV, continues to be active as
4W/JH2EUV from Dili, Timor Leste (OC-148), until September 20th. Activity
has been mainly FT8 on 20/15/12/10 meters. QSL via JH2EUV, by the Bureau,
direct or LoTW.
5C40, MOROCCO (Special Callsign). Operators Abderrahmane/CN8QR, Hafid/
CN8GFH and Mustapha/CN8GC are now active with special callsigns 5C40QR,
5C40GFH and 5C40GC, respectively from Marrakesh and Oujda, Morocco, until
September 12th, in memory of Kharbouch, CN8KD, who became a Silent Key
(SK) on August 3rd. Activity will be on various HF bands. QSL 5C40QR via
CN8WW, 5C40GFH via CN8GFH and 5C40GC via CN8WW.
5J01/5K0, SAN ANDRES AND PROVIDENCIA. Operators Francisco/HK3EA and
Gabriel/HK3MKQ will be active as 5J01EA and 5K0VT, respectively, from
Bottom House, Providencia Island (NA-049, WW Loc. EK93hi), between
February 28th and March 5th, 2023. Activity will be on various HF bands
and modes. QSL via LoTW and eQSL. Look for more details to be forthcoming.
5R, MADAGASCAR. Operators Ron/PA3EWP, Guenter/DL2AWG, Erno/DK2AMM and
Gerben/PG5M will be active as 5R8WP, 5R8WG, 5R8MM and 5R8CG, respectively,
from Nosy Be Island (AF-057), Madagascar, between October 11-22nd. They
will operate with two stations simultaneously and on CW, SSB, RTTY and
FT8. Each station consists of an Elecraft K3 with SPE Expert 1.3K-FA
amplifier. The spare radios are SunSDR2 PRO and IC7300. The antennas
will be Hexbeam for 20-6m, DX Commander for 40-10m, 30m vertical with
elevated radials, a 80m vertical and 160m vertical. Depending on inter-
net availability, they will update their records on ClubLog daily. QSL
5R8WP, 5R8WG and 5R8MM via DL2AWG, ClubLog and LoTW (later). QSL 5R8CG
via PG5M, ClubLog and LoTW (later).
5W, SAMOA (Canceled). Pista, HA5AO, reports the following on his Web
page (www.ha5ao.com): "5W0DX operation from Samoa in February 2023 is
cancelled. After 4 months of careful planning, receiving the 5W0DX li-
cense, booking the rooms at the Le Lagoto Resort, opening the website
and announcing our planned operation, booking the flight tickets, we
had to decide to cancel our DXpedition to Samoa due to unexpected, un-
foreseen reason."
7P, LESOTHO (Update). "A South African Ham Radio (Mini) Dxpedition 2022"
from Lesotho between November 2-7th. Operators mentioned are Mike/ZS6MSW
(Team Leader), YL Erika/ZS6ESW, Gert/ZS6GC, YL Elna/ZS6EB, Sid/ZS5AYC,
YL Adele/ZS5APT, Lucas/ZS6ACT and YL Magda/ZS6MMS will be active as 7P8CW
from Hlotse, Lesotho. Activity will be on 80-10 meters using CW, SSB and
FT8. Suggested frequencies are:
CW - 3505, 7010, 14025, 18075, 21025, 24895 and 28025 kHz
SSB - 3780, 7063, 14185, 18136, 21290, 24930 and 28490 kHz
FT8 - 3580, 7040, 14071, 18090, 21091, 24915 and 28095 kHz
The team will be limited to 100 watts. Mike, ZS6MSW, will be the only
operator who will be active on CW. QSL via ClubLog and eQSL.
CN, MOROCCO (Update/Change). Michel, F5LRL, is now active as CN2DX from
near Kenitra (WW Loc. IM64), Morocco, until September 9th. Activity will
be holiday style on 40/20/17/15/12/10 meters using CW, SSB and FT8,
with a IC7610 into vertical antennas. Michel suggests to look for him
during 0500-1000z and 1800-2200z. QSL via EA5GL.
CQ MAGAZINE NEWS (Press Release, dated August 31st). The following was
sent out by Richard Moseson, W2VU, Editor of CQ Magazine:
Updated CQ Contest Policy Relating to Russia's Invasion of Ukraine
Supersedes Policy Published in September issue of CQ
PLEASE NOTE: This updates and supersedes the policy discussion in the
editorial of the September 2022 issue of CQ.
Sometimes, deadlines are your friends; sometimes not. This was a "not."
The deadline for the September issue of CQ arrived while spirited dis-
cussions were still taking place regarding possible updates to CQ's policy
regarding stations from Russia and Belarus competing in CQ contests. Since
no agreement had been reached, it was decided to retain the policy as it
had been since last spring. However, discussions continued and we have
now agreed on several minor changes to the policy that will broaden par-
ticipation in our contests while still joining with sporting federations
around the world to condemn the invasion of Ukraine. The updated policy
follows, which supersedes that published in the September issue of CQ.
- The editors
1) Effective with the upcoming CQ WW RTTY DX contest on September 24-25,
2022, and all CQ contests going forward, we will resume accepting
Russian/Belorussian log entries as regular logs, publish their scores
and credit QSOs/points/multipliers in all related logs.
2) However, plaques will not be awarded to otherwise-eligible Russian/
Belorussian stations. In the event that one of these stations has
the top score in a given category, the plaque will be awarded to
the top-scoring non-Russian/Belorussian entry in that category.
3) Online certificates will not be awarded to any Russian/Belorussian
entry, either as a participant award or based on ranking.
4) CQ will identify partners with which to initiate a humanitarian
program to support the people of Ukraine. This effort will occur
either in collaboration with current activities or be entirely new.
Details of this program will be announced as they develop.
5) Specifics of this policy are subject to future review as develop-
ments may warrant.

CY0S SABLE ISLAND DXPEDITION NEWS (Update; New Dates March 20-29th, 2023).
Murray, WA4DAN, CY0S DXpedition Team Leader), sent out the following update
on September 1st [edited]: "The 2023 Sable Island CY0S DXpedition team
is very pleased to announce that DX Engineering is a major sponsor of the
DXpedition. Many thanks to Tim/K3LR, Teri/K8MNJ and all the fine folks at
DX Engineering for their most generous and overwhelming support for the
CY0S DXpedition. DX Engineering is providing low band antennas, bandpass
filters, coaxial cables, guying materials and many other items. Many
thanks to the DX Engineering team! Planning continues to go well for the
DXpedition. One of the unique aspects of the Sable DXpedition effort is
the weight limits the team must meet. The team is allowed two flights to
get team members, equipment, antennas, antenna mast, coaxial cables, food
and personal gear to the island. One flight will be with Sable Aviation
on their Britten Norman Islander twin engine aircraft. The other flight
will be on the Vision Air Services Sikorsky SK-76A helicopter. The total
weight allowance for the two aircraft is 2965 lbs which includes the
weight of each team member. This somewhat limits what the team is allowed
to carry to the island. In order to conserve weight, team members will
be bringing freeze dried meals and MRE's for the nine day DXpedition.
The team is continually fine tuning and prioritizing the gear that will
be taken to the island. It's a challenge to be able to take all that is
needed and come under the weight limits."

There are four changes in the "Top 26" since we last reported back on
August 8th. FT5/X and FT/G changed places. VK0M and YV0 changed places.
KH4 and ZS8 changed places. JD/M and FT/T changed places which caused

FH, MAYOTTE. Michal, OK1WMR (OK1M), will be active as FH/OK1M from Mayotte
Island (AF-027) between September 13-25th. Activity will be on 20/15/10
meters using SSB, RTTY and possibly FT8, with 100 watts into a dipole.
He will also be in the CQWW DX RTTY Contest (September 24-25th). QSL
via OK1M.
FO, FRENCH POLYNESIA. Vincent, K6VVK, will be active as FO/K6VVK from
Moorea Island (OC-046), French Polynesia, between September 27th and
October 5th. Activity will be holiday style on 160-6 meters using CW,
SSB and FT8/FT4, with a Yaesu FTDX10 into a MT1 antenna for 20-6m and
a sloping wire for 160-30m. QSL only via LoTW, ClubLog, eQSL and QRZ.com's
Log Book. NO direct or Bureau QSLs.
FR, REUNION. Michal, OK1WMR (OK1M), will be active as FR/OK1M from Reunion
Island (AF-016) between September 8-12th. Activity will be on 20/15/10
meters using SSB, RTTY and possibly FT8, with 100 watts into a dipole.

FW, WALLIS AND FUTUNA ISLANDS (Update). Jean, F4CIX, continues to be
active as FW1JG from Wallis Island. Reports indicate that he will be
here for the next 2 or more years. Activity is mainly on 40/30/20/17/
15/12/10/6 meters using SSB and FT8/FT4. Watch for him between 0630-0915z
on 20 meters using FT8 and SSB. He uses a IC-7300 with 100 watts into a
5 bands Spiderbeam and a wire dipole for 40/30m. He posts on QRZ.com the
following operations/suggestions and details/requests [edited]:
FT8/4 -- Please send your grid first not the report...
FT8 -- If I'm calling on a DX expedition frequency, it's always on
FOX/Hound mode so call +1000Hz up at least and send your grid
CW -- I don't decode CW by ear, but I will try to do some with a
keyboard and CW skimmer. Thank you in this case for being
lenient, just sending me a report and sending your callsign
several times.

understanding.

AF-047. Operators Jorge/CT1BOL, José/CT1DSV, António/CT1ENV, Ricardo/
CT3KN and José/CT3MD will be active as CR3SI from Selvagens
Islands (Selvagem Grande) between September 21-25th. Activity
is part of the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the
Reserva Natural das Ilhas Selvagens. Operations will be on
CW, SSB and FT8 (first time for this mode). This is a rare
IOTA reference number. No other details available at this time.
AF-094. Members of the Algerien Amateur Radio Union will be active as
7Y8LI fromo Arzew Island (WLOTA 2292) sometime early November
2022. Look for more details to be forthcoming.
EU-041. (Reminder) Giuseppe, IK5WWA, is now active as IM0M from La
Maddalena until September 13th. Activity will be on various
HF bands plus 6 meters (he will not have antennas for 160 and
30 meters). He states [edited], "On September 11th, I will
participate in the I.I.A. Italian Island Award, while on Sep-
tember 6th (on VHF) and September 8th (on 6 meters). I will
be active for the I.A.C. Italian Activity Contest." QSL via
his home callsign, by the Bureau or direct.
NA-046. Operators Don/K6ZO and Brian/WV8BNM will be active as from
Nantucket Island between September 1-7th. Activity will be on
160-6 meters using the callsigns W1N (on SSB) and N1N (on CW
& FT8). QSL route has not be announced yet, but QSL cards will
be designed by UX5UO after the activity.
NA-213. Tom, KM4VI, will be active from Dauphin Island between October
13-15th. Activity will be holiday style on various HF bands
using SSB. QSL via KM4VI, direct, LoTW or ClubLog.
OC-203. Mike, VE6TC, will be active as ZL4/VE6TC from Oban, Stewart
Island, (WW Loc. RE43BE) until early October. His operations
will be portable using an FT-897 with 100w into a vertical
wire with ground plane of radials of 3 - 1/4 wave a few feet

LG5 & SJ9, NORWAY AND SWEDEN. Operators Andy/DL3DUE and Sten/DJ5NN will
activate the Ham station LG5LG/SJ9WL Morokulien station, which is on the
border between Norway and Sweden, between Friday, September 30th, and
Monday, October 3rd. The special callsign for the Norwegian side is LG5LG,
and the special callsign for the Swedish side is SJ9WL. Activity will be
on 160m-70cm using CW, SSB and the Digital modes. For more details about

informs OPDX that the LABRE HQ will be operating the special callsign
PV200BR between September 1-30th, in celebration of Brazil's 200 years

"I am now reaching the end of my stay, and have a very busy schedule
before leaving Jan Mayen, the 5th of October. So expect less activity
on the bands. I will close the 'Jan Mayen-option' for direct QSL-cards
21st of September, and when I arrive home I will open again for re-
questing the official QSL-card; direct and buro. So if you want the
Jan Mayen postcard + rubber stamps from the island, you must request
before 21st of September.
'Post card QSL-service' via OQRS still active. LAST shipment is 28th
of September. Last OQRS request is 21st of September. See pictures at
the end of this page (QRZ.com) for examples of the postcards. All re-
ceived buro cards will be replied before Christmas 2022, for free -
and those will only be the official QSL card.

SPECIAL EVENT (Highway to a DX Party!). The Citrus Belt Amateur Radio
Club of San Bernardino (w6jbt.org), California, is once again hosting
(probably one of the most fun special event activities) the 23rd annual
"Route 66 On The Air" special event between 0000z on Saturday, September
10th and 2359z on Sunday, September 18th. The purpose of this event is
to offer amateur radio operators a fun way to "Relive the Ride" of their
own memories of Route 66, and to celebrate the highway's 96th anniversary.
The U.S. Highway 66 established in 1926, was the first major improved
highway to link the west coast with the nation's heartland. Through stories,
songs, and TV shows, the highway came to symbolize the spirit of the freedom
of the open road, inspiring many to see America.
Look for the following 21 stations (two are rovers) operating in or
around the major cities along the old "Route 66" from Santa Monica,
California, to Chicago, Illinois:

other amateur radio operators are welcome to contact these mobile
operators. NOTE: W6S AND W6T ARE THE ONLY OFFICIAL EVENT ROVER/
MOBILE STATIONS AND WILL BE ENDORSED ON THE EVENT CERTIFICATE.
REPEATERS - Some of the participating clubs will also be operating this
event from their local VHF/UHF repeaters. Check the ARRL repeater
guide for possible repeater frequencies, if you're in the local
area.

TF, ICELAND (Reminder). Operators George/K5KG, Steve/K4EU and Tom/K4NMR
will be active as TF/K5KG, TF/K4EU and TF/K4NMR from Iceland (IOTA EU-21),
September 6-20th. The team will be working various contests, CWTs, state
QSO parties, etc...
TM8, FRANCE (Special Event). Members of the Saint Malo Radio Club will
activate special event station, TM8R, during the "Route du Rhum", a sailing
ship race from Saint-Malo (France) to Pointe-à-Pitre (Guadeloupe Island).
The activity will take place between October 27th and November 6th. The
team will be active on all bands, all modes. For more information, see the

TY, BENIN. Finnish operators Tapani/OH5BM, Pekka/OH2TA and Timo/OH5LLR
will be active as TY5AF from the premises of the Finnish cultural center
"Villa Karo", in Grand Popo village on the Atlantic coast of Benin between
November 22-29th. Activity will be on all HF bands and modes. The operators
will also focus on the CQWW DX CW Contest (November 26-27th) as a Multi-Op
entry. While there, they will try to establish local amateur radio activ-
ities in Benin together with Villa Karo organization.
V2, ANTIGUA. A couple of sources are reporting that Bud, AA3B, will once
again be active as V26K from Antigua (NA-100) between September 7-15th.
Activity will be mainly on CW on various HF bands during his spare time.

VP5, TURKS AND CAICOS ISLANDS. Operators Jim/NU4Y and Ron/N4KE will be
active as VP5DX from Turks & Caicos between October 20th and November

(October 29-30th) as a Multi-Single/Low-Power entry. QSL via NU4Y, LoTW

VP9, BERMUDA. Janusz, SP9FIH, will be active as SP9FIH/VP9 from Bermuda
Islands (NA-005) between September 23rd and October 2nd. Activity will
be on 30/17/15/12 meters using SSB, RTTY and FT8, while using "very modest

WA2, UNITED STATES (Special 911 Callsign). The station WA2NYC is a remem-
brance of the 21st anniversary on the attack on the World Trade Center
in New York City. We remember that over twenty nine hundred souls that
were lost on that day. The station will operate between 0000z, September
11th until 0300z, September 12th. Suggested frequencies are: 28450,
21350, 14340, 7238 and D-STAR Reflector XLX020B will be monitored at the
top of the hour. They will also be uploading QSOs to LoTW. If you would
