QSL INFO AND NEWS
Logs for 3A/IZ1DFI (Gianni) and 3A/IK1QBT (Tony) for their October
21-22nd operation are now available at:
Terry Liang, BD7NQ, informs OPDX that QSLs for B7K go via W2AY, NOT BD7NQ.
Charlie, WB4PVT, has talked to Georgi, LZ1ZF, and he reports that Georgi is the QSL Manager for BT4ARDF. Georgi has just returned from China where he took part in The 10th Amateur Radio Direction Finding World Championship (were he took 4th on 2 meters band and 5th on 80 meters). He states that all logs (over 4000 QSO's) are at his disposal, and he is the QSL Manager for all contacts regardless of the operator of BT4ARDF. QSL cards will be printed in two weeks. Georgi will QSL 100% via the bureau, but states that the LZ QSL bureau is quite slow, so he will also confirm directly (please SASE) via CBA or to: LZ1ZF, P.O.Box 11, 4300 KARLOVO, BULGARIA.
Gil, F5NOD, reports that the FO0/F5JJW log is now available on his Web site:
Two members of the Radio Club GRAPA (Grupo de Radioaficionaodoa al Packet) HR1AAB/Alberto and Antonio/HR1ERL were active in this past weekend's CQWW DX SSB Contest as HR1AAB. QSL via: P.O. BOX 1734, Tegucigalpa Honduras, Central America, Zip Code 11101.
SV9/K7BV QSLS. Mike, K8IW, informed OPDX that he talked to Steve, KU9C, and was told that the QSLs would be ready in about a month. They are having a full colored QSL card printed, but had some problems with the picture. The picture was sent to the printer just recently, and Steve thinks the turn around will be pretty quick. He is sorry for the delay, but wanted to do a nice card for this operaiton.
VK6BM QSLs. Alan, VK4AAR, advises that after several unexpected holdups at the printer's, he has been advised that he should be receiving the VK6BM (OC-234) QSL cards very soon. All the envelopes are ready with stamps on them, so as soon as he receives the cards, they will be on their way to the DXers, progressively over the following days. Alan will make sure such delays do NOT occur on future operations. He thanks all for your patience.
Toni, EA5RM, informs OPDX that the XU7ABD log is now available at the Web site:
Cesar, PY2YP, Chairman of the Grupo de CW de Sao Paulo (CWSP), informs OPDX that the Grupo de CW de Sao Paulo (Sao Paulo CW Group) has a new URL address:
QSL cards for YC3ZMI (IOTA OC-237 operation) should be sent to IK8CCW at: Antonio Cannataro, PO Box 360, 87100 Cosenza ITALY (he is not member of ARI).

to defray printing would be appreciated. For more information, contact
Tom UA4SKW at: toms@mail.ru
There will be a special award certificate "Mariy-El 80" for those who
made QSOs with Russian stations from "UA4S"-oblast during year 2000
(foreign stations need 2 QSOs, CIS - 3, Russia - 5 QSO`s). UE4SMA counts
for 2 QSOs for everyone. The certificate fee is 4USD or 10 IRCs.
VK6, AUSTRALIA
Larry, K3MLA/KG4ML, will be in Geraldton, Western Australia,
from November 5-17th. However, he states this will be a business trip and
has been issued the callsign VK6BRP. He will be taking his FT-100, along
with a rigblaster interface and laptop, and will be trying to hand out
some PSK31 contacts from Zone 29. Larry plans on operating 40-10 meters,
including the WARC bands, operating CW and SSB. He is hoping that the
"Best Western" motel will be "HAM Friendly" to antennas (this may be a
problem). As a backup, Larry is taking an ATAS-100 mobile HF antenna just
in case he can only operate from the rental car. Like his KG4 operations,
if he is not working, he will be operating the radio! QSL via his home
callsign, K3MLA.

Subject: Prairie DX Group YJ DXpedition Update
Dear Fellow DXer:
The Prairie DX Group http://www.n9pd.com is pleased to announce that we will again have live real-time on line logs available during our DXpedition. We also have incorporated other exciting new innovations to our website and complement the DXpedition experience. Full details are listed below in our Update #2. If you have any questions, please contact us at kf9zz@arrl.net Please feel free to distribute the message listed below.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Prairie DX Group DXpedition to Vanuatu Nov. 19-29, 2000
Update #2 Real-time on-line logging, live web cam, announcement board,
photo gallery, and more!
In 1998, as FP/N9PD, The Prairie DX Group http://www.n9pd.com became the first (and still only) DXpedition to have our logs available live on-line in real-time. This November, during our DXpedition to Vanuatu, we will again demonstrate real-time activity from a DXpedition on an Internet web site.
We expect to be assigned the call YJ0PD for our general operating and YJ0V for the CQWW CW Contest.
Not only will we have live real-time logs available (including during the CQWW CW Contest), we will add the following new features:
1. Live web cam updated every few minutes
2. Photo Gallery. Learn more about our DXpedition and about our
destination, Vanuatu. Digital pictures which will be regularly updated
on our web-page.
3. A daily update message billboard with operating information for the
day.
4. Recorded sound files and possibly live streaming audio from the
DXpedition. Hear what the pileups sound like in Vanuatu.
We have tried hard to incorporate Amateur Radio and the Internet because one of our major goals to expose Amateur Radio to non-hams around the world. Hopefully we will be able to interest a few of these non-hams to become licensed, or at least find out about our hobby. (If you are a teacher/activities director/librarian/media director… and want to incorporate our DXpedition into your classroom, please send us a message.)
Our DXpedition is both Ham Radio and Internet, with a twist for experimentation. For both communication methods, please make an effort to work us while we visit Vanuatu. QSL Route for the DXpedition (including CQWW CW Contest) is via N9PD, direct (please include SASE, IRC or $) or via buro. DO NOT SEND QSL CARDS VIA "YJ VANUATU BURO.
For further information, please see our web page http://www.n9pd.com or contact us at kf9zz@arrl.net

4W/K7BV & 4W/N6FF DXpedition Wrap-up
Dick and I would like to thank all the DXers who helped make our 4W DXpedition a memorable one – hopefully for all. We trust you had as much fun working us as we did getting those 13,000 contacts into the log. Although the trip proved to be challenging in some ways, both Dick and I left East Timor feeling reasonably satisfied that we had accomplished our goal – “Provide a new country for DXers on the 160, 80, 40 and 30 meter bands.”
Some 5,400 QSOs were made on those four low bands. 160 meters got a tremendous amount of attention. Considering that the three population centers of the world were well over 5,000 miles away and the propagation we experienced was less than cooperative, we were pleased with the following continental breakdown of contacts on Top Band:
160 Meters by Continent NA-115 Asia-217 EU-79 OC-23
We knew we were going to be an “Alligator” on the two lowest bands with such fantastic transmitting antennas but felt it was better to “roar” than to have callers working so hard to pick us out of the noise. That left us with the noise problems – and there were plenty to overcome including typical Equator QRN, sunspot storms galore, local lightening, and a countryside full of patched together electrical connections of every imaginable kind lighting nearby dirt floor grass huts. In addition, our actual operating position was inside an active communications building with people coming and going performing their respective responsibilities for the UN Mission. Numerous local power failures each day contributed to our frustration but we were very grateful that there was an emergency generator available to power us back up not long after each failure.
The Band by Band breakdown for the trip came out as follows:
160 439 17 1227 80 1033 15 1375 40 2011 12 855 30 1908 10 2250 20 1550 6 267*
Ross 4W6UN was there for our arrival in Dili and made sure our taxi driver had proper instructions to our operating QTH, some 3-4 hours away by car. Thor 4W6MM did an incredible job supporting the DXpedition; allowing us access to a 220 foot tower to hang our 160 and 80 meter slopers as well as allowing us to use his impressive YAESU station as well as his powerful Emtron DX-3 amplifier from Australia (a real workhorse!). It seemed each day we presented him with a new station problem to be solved and he was always up for the challenge.
We wish to thank YAESU for their efforts to insure Thor had his new fabulous Mark-V transceiver in time for us to use it during this adventure. We also we able to use the FT1000MP they had earlier donated to the East Timor Amateur Radio Association.
We appreciate the patience that was exhibited by most callers as the conditions described above (as well as some serious sleep deprivation) made our operating practices occasionally appear disjointed. And to George (the fist sized spider we befriended and named) and the resident scorpions we offer our thanks for not adding discomfort – to say the least – to our operation!
Rod, WC7N, thank you for doing a yeoman’s job as our Pilot Station and Andy, W6/G4VPM we all appreciate you keeping the website current and getting those logs up for review.
QSL via the man with the huge job still to do, Steve KU9C. He will soon have a photo to use to print the cards which should then follow some weeks later from Wayne W4MPY.
A detailed story about the trip and video are being prepared.
73 Dennis K7BV and Dick N6FF
