3W, VIETNAM
Michal, 3W7TK, has been very busy lately on 15 meters CW/SSB.
Check between 1245 and 1830z on or around 21255 or 21012 kHz. QSL via

9H, MALTA
NODXA's good friend Holger, DL7IO, informs OPDX that he is
happy to announce their first DXpedition with the newborn Xenia. Holger
and the girls (Birgit/DL7IQ, Saskia and Xenia), along with Olaf/DJ7TO
left for Gozo Island (EU-023) on Sunday, July 1st, and by the time you
read this, they should be active as 9H3O for the next two weeks (July
15th). Birgit/DL7IQ will use her 9H3TZ. They plan to have two stations
up with legal power, directional antennas for 20-10m and verticals/dipoles
for the lower bands. Activity will be on 160-10 meters, mostly CW. Their
main activity will take place between July 6-9th. They got permission to
use the location of the Gordon Fanal Lighthouse on Gozo (130m over NN,
360 degree view) during that time and will do so with both stations.
QSL route is of course via DL7VRO. ADDED NOTES: As the editor was putting
the final touches on the bulletin, 9H3O was heard active on 17/15/12
meters between 1200-1600z. Check around 18080, 21007 and 24900 kHz.
CONTEST ANNOUNCEMENT/CHANGE
Rob, HK3CW, Director of Contests and Awards
of the Liga Colombiana de Radioaficionados (LCRA), informed OPDX that
this year's Colombian Independence Day Contest will be held on July 21st,
0001-2400z. This has not been publicized. The contest committee decided
to change the date and rules to make it more competitive for DX to work
the contest and avoid other DX contests that occur on the same date.

DXCC NEWS RELEASE (June 26, 2001):
Bill Moore, NC1L, DXCC Manager, has
announced the following: DXCC is pleased to announce the addition of the
12-Meter Single Band DXCC award. Applications for this award will be
accepted beginning July 2, 2001. 12 Meter DXCC certificates will be dated
but not numbered. 12 meter credits will not count toward the DeSoto Cup
competition until October 1, 2001, but they will be included in the DXCC
Challenge totals. If you do not know what credits you have on 12 meters,
you may contact DXCC for a copy of your record. Note: the 12-meter band
was added to the printout on January 1, 2001. If you received a copy
since then, you already have a copy of your 12-meter credits. This will
help avoid duplicates and additional costs. If you have web access and
can handle ADOBE (.pdf) files, contact DXCC at dxcc@arrl.orgdxcc@arrl.org for a copy
of your record. If you do not have web access, please send a note to

EY, TAJIKISTAN
This is the week that a group of mountaineers and EY
amateurs are planning an expedition to the Sarez Lake. The group will
climb a nameless mountain (5800m) and name it "Radio Amateurs Peak".
The operators will be Vladimir/EY8HB, Nodir/EY8MM and Faruh/EY8AV. However,
Faruh will stay in the base camp and coordinate all the activities while
Vladimir and Nodir climb the mountain. Once the expedition team reaches
the peak, the two operators will use the special callsign EY1ARP (Amateur
Radio Peak) only for about one or two hours. For more information on this

HB0, LIECHTENSTEIN
Karesz, HA8EU, will be active from here now through
July 3rd. Activity will be pon 80-10 meters, primarily on CW with some
SSB. QSL via HA2NM, direct or Bureau.
IOTA NEWS
AF-NEW. Hrane, YT1AD, is preparing a DXpedition to Galite Island for
July 5-12th. Possible callsigns may be 3V2GI or 3V8GI.
AS-056. Masa, JA6GXK, Masa will be active from Danjo Archipelago (Meshima Island), on the following dates: July 13-24th, August 14-24th and October 5-16th. This is not a DXpedition, and he will be active in his spare time. Suggested frequencies are: 7 MHz, 14260 +/- 10 kHz or 21260 +/- 10 kHz. QSL only via the Bureau.
EU.174. The EDR Vestfyn branch will participate in the annual VHF field day from July 3rd, 1400z to July 4th, 1400z, using the callsign OZ5VF/P from JO45XG near Ebberup on the Island of Fyn. Activity will be on or around (+/-QRM) 50.173 MHz, 144.173 MHz or 144.273 MHz and 432.173 MHz. The team will consist of OZ4CQ, OZ6CQ and OZ6OM/OZ7M along with others. All are qualifed VHF operators.
EU-184. (CORRECTION) Operators OH6HJE, OH6UV, OH6MTG and OH6NJ will be active as OH6AW/8 from Hailuoto Island now through July 5th (not July 29th-August 4th as reported last week). QSL via OH6AD. Operation will be on HF, 6m, 2m and 70cm. A Web page is available at:
NA-031. Mark, AA1AC, will be active during the upcoming IOTA contest from Aquidneck Island, Rhode Island, as AA1AC/1. QSL to home callsign.
NA-076. Fred, KF9YL, will be operating from Cedar Key, FL, during the 2001 IOTA Contest. QSL direct (PO Box 291891, Davie, FL 33329-1891) or via the bureau.
NA-148. Tony/WF1N and Lou/W1DIG will be on the Thacher Island, July 27-29th. Operation will start around 1500z Friday and end about 1800z Sunday. Look for activity before and during the IOTA Contest. They will use a tribander and amp on/near the usual IOTA frequencies, (40m, 7260 +/- at the top of the hour), SSB. QSL to home callsigns direct (SAE and postage, please) or Bureau. SA-052. Pablo/OA4DJW, Sergio/OA4DKC and Manuel/OA4AHW report that their scheduled date for the San Lorenzo Island operation had to be postponned possibly until the last weeks of August or the beginning of September. The reason for the change of date is due to the delay of the permission paperwork, licenses and some logistic problems. They state that they are very enthusiastic about this small DXpedition, however big for them, project. They are trying to fix all the problems as fast as posible and trying to also increase the crew so they can work more people.
JW, SVALBARD
Remember to look for Tom, LA4LN, as JW4LN on Spitsbergen
from July 6-23rd He is actually working there and can only operate on
CW on 40/30/20/6 meters during his spare time in the evening hours. During
his stay there he will also visit Bear Island.
LIGHTHOUSE ACTIVITY
(Lighthouse/IOTA/Special-Event). To celebrate the 10th anniversary
of the Croatian Navy - HRV.Ratna Mornarica, look for special event
station 9A10HRM to be active from the lighthouse on Brijuni Islands
(EU-110, CLH-101, CI-139 and WLH-1651). This operation is organized
by Kresimir, 9A7K, along with 5 to 7 operators of the Croatian IOTA
Hunters Group and Members of ARC "Koprivnica". Activity will be July
27th through August 3rd (with a possibility of 2 or 3 extra days).
Operations will be on HF, UHF, WARC and 6M. Also, look for 9A0LH to
be active during the IOTA Contest July 28-29th. Hams interested in
these DXpeditions and the Croatian LightHouse Award can get all the

The Orkney Amateur Radio Club will be active as GB5RO from Hoy High Lighthouse on the Island of Graemsay for Lighthouse Weekend, August 18-19th. Graemsay is OR-20 for the Islands of Scotland Award, and EU-009 for IOTA Award. Operation is from mid-afternoon on the 18th until 12 noon on the 19th. QSL to GM4DZX.
(Lighthouse/IOTA/Special-Event). Brent, KO4PY, reports that for the IOTA Contest, they will activate Bodie Island Lighthouse (North Carolina - Dare County near Oregon Inlet - IOTA NA-067). This is where Wrights' First Flight (Centinneal of non-powered glider flights of 1901) took place, and the special event callsign W1F (Wrights' 1st Flight) will be used during the IOTA Contest. Setup will take place July 27th, and possibly be on the air about 1600z (as KO4PY and N4YDU). For the IOTA contest period only, they will operate as W1F on 10, 15 and 20 meters. Possible overnight 40 meters operation may take place, depending on local conditions. QSL for W1F is KO4PY.
On August 3-4th, look for special event W0MTL - "Mark Twain Memorial Lighthouse", from Hannibal, MO (ARLHS USA-915). A Photo QSL and certificate will be available. Send QSL card and a 9x12 SASE with 55 cents postage to W0MTL CBA. This is a joint special event by the Hannibal, MO ARC and Western Illinois ARC.
Members of the Castalia Island DX Association and the Tar River ARC of Rocky Mount, NC, will participate in the International Lighthouse Weekend August 18-19th with an operation near the Currituck Beach Lighthouse (USA 212) on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. The callsign for the operation will be K4UP. QSLs go to K4UP. More information can be found at:
New Lighthouse To Be Activated! Mike, UA0MF, will visit the "Skryplev" Lighthouse (LH 1309) on July 2nd from 0200-1200z for a reconnaissance before the main one week expedition in late July. He will operate as UE0LLH with a FT-900 and GP on 15/20 meters during his stay. This island is IOTA AS-066 as well. The main expedition's exact date will be announced later. LT1, ARGENTINA (Live Webcam)
The "BadPower Team" will be active during
the IARU Contest with a live Webcam feed for people around the world to
see and hear themselves being worked by LT1F. The Webcam can be seen at:

LX, LUXEMBOURG
A Dutch team will be active as LX9SW from September
15-22nd. They will concentrate on CW and SSB, 160-10 meters, but there
will also be active on RTTY and PSK31. Suggested frequencies are
(+/- QRM):
CW - 1820, 3520, 7020, 10120, 14060, 18070, 21020, 24900, 28020
SSB - 1845, 3785, 7080, 14185, 18150, 21280, 24950, 28480
2 meters - 144.325 and 144.020
They will listen up 5 kHz. QSL via PA1KW. QSL is OK by the bureau or
direct with an IRC or greenstamp.
OH, FINLAND (also OH0 and ES)
Bernie, W3UR, Editor of "The Daily DX" is
on his way to Finland, the site of the 2002 World Radio Team Championship
(WRTC). His first stop will be Helsinki, Finland, on July 3rd, where he
will be active for a day or two as W3UR/OH2 from the QTH of Martti Laine,
OH2BH. While there he will tour the "Ring Three", the main road circulating
Helsinki where all 50+ WRTC stations of next year's event will be located.

OH0, ALAND ISLAND
Team OH0V will be active July 24-31st on atop of Geta
Mountain. Activity will be on 160-10 meters, plus 6 and 2 meters with
various callsigns. Look for them on HF, digimodes and 2m meteorscatter
(available on 144.139 MHz). The OH0V international team of operators
are: DJ2QV, DK3DM, DK5DQ, OH6LI and OH6QU. QSL to OH6LI via bureau or
direct: Jukka Klemola, Aarontie 5, 31400 SOMERO, FINLAND.
OY, FAROE ISLANDS
The "DX Newletter" reports that Fabian, DL1YFK, will
be active July 7-11th; no callsign mentioned. Activity will be on CW on
40-10 meters. He will then travel to Iceland afterwards.
QSL NEWS AND INFO
7O1YGF DXCC Status. Franz, DK1II, has informed Andy, NX1Q, that "it
doesn`t look too good for getting a piece of paper from the Yemeni
authorities." Dominik, DL5EBE, a member of 7O team was just recently
again in Sana'a, where they "still have good relations with the
responsible persons in the Ministry of Communications, but the answer
he got there was not encouraging." Franz states (repeats), "we entered
Yemen and did our operation, we had the firm oral promise, that our
operation was approved by all relevant authorities and that we would
get an approval in writing. Due to several circumstances which were not
in our control and not caused by ourselves (!), there happened a change
in mind......! But we assume, that we brought some movement in the
issue of legalizing amateur radio in Yemen! This is the only info I
can give you now! Sri!"
Gil, F5NOD, reports that all FR/F6KDF/T QSLs received before April have been sent. If you didn't receive yours, please resubmit to F6KDF, the QSL Manager. Gil reminds everyone to put the name of your country on the SAE. Also, there will be NO QSL mailing before September ...
Laurent, KM5M/F5JTL, informs OPDX that he has talked to Jean-Claude, TR8XX, who used to be his next-door neighbor in France. He told him that he is going back to France for the summer and QSL cards should be sent to his F2XX callsign/address while he is there. The Gabon post office doesn't always work well, and it would be a lot safer to send directly to his French address for the next 2 months.
QSL Manager, Steve, KU9C, reports that he expects the BQ9P QSL card to find its way to his doorstep on/about July 13th. However, due to some family commitments, he is going to be a bit slower than normal in getting these cards out, as he has some things scheduled in July that will keep him away from the QSL cards (yes, even QSL Managers take a vacation now and then!). He will begin processing the cards immediately, but as he has some 6500 envelopes to fill. He doesn't anticipate having the cards out completely before mid-August. He doesn't think that this will create any award submission problems, and he states he will do the best he can to improve on this schedule. When all direct cards are out, Steve will post a note. Steve requests to please not E-mail him asking him if he has your card or if he has mailed your card, etc...

Vernon, VE2MBS, informed OPDX Sunday, July 1st,
of the following about the special event VC2A by the Montreal Amateur
Radio Club: "Sorry for the notice. I was told a few minutes ago that
the special event station has been canceled because of thunderstorms
in the area. I was about a half a mile away from the Canada Day site
in Dorval about twenty minutes ago and the lightning was quite a sight!
Again, sorry but that's the way it goes I guess...... Vernon"
T48, CUBA
Fabrizio, IN3ZNR, will be operating from Cuba with the special
callsign T48Z during the IARU HF Championship. This effort will be
together with some Cuban Hams, like CO8HF and CO8TW. Some hours of operation

William, AK0A, will be going to Costa Rica for the CQWW
