Remember to look for Bob, N4CD, to show up from here starting October 2nd through October 15th. His callsign is still unknown, but he has asked for 3W6CD. Activity will only be on 40/20/15/10 meters. 4L, GEORGIA
David, 4L1DA, informs OPDX that station 4L0G will participate in the CQWW SSB Contest. Operators mentioned are: 4L1DA/David, 4L2M/Mamuka, 4L7O/Thomas, 4L7CE/Gogita and 4L4CR/Mike. QSL via DL7BO.

5B4, CYPRUS (Also Possibly ZC4)
Rick, AI5P, will be active as 5B4/AI5P from October 4-11th. Reports indicate that he may also try to operate from the club station in the U.K. Sov. Base Area on Cyprus (ZC4) for a few hours.

5B4, CYPRUS
Johan, PA3FDO, will be active as 5B4/PA3FDO from October 13-23rd, using only a 100 watts and vertical dipoles. His focus will be on 12 and 17 meters for those who still need 5B4. QSL via homecall. Sending via the Bureau is OK.

5T5, MAURlTANIA
The "Japan DX News" reports that from October 6-16th, a seven member team from the International Amateur Radio Volunteers (IARV) organization will make their annual visit to the Sahara Desert as part of a technical aid program. They expect to be permitted to operate amateur radio with individual callsigns using the format 5T5*** as well as 5T5U. The operation will be carried out mainly in the CW mode, including activity on 10 MHz band. Send your QSL to each operator's home callsign.

9K2USA UPDATE
Bob, 9K2ZZ, reports that the positive response to the use of 9K2USA by Kuwait amateurs has been overwhelming. He states, "Thanks to all who have E-mailed the Kuwait Amateur Radio Society 9k2ra@kars.org, your support is appreciated by both the Kuwaiti Amateurs, and those of us who are guest operators in Kuwait. The 'official' 9K2USA QSL card has been finalized." It is now posted on the website at:

AMATEUR RADIO LIGHTHOUSE SOCIETY CONVENTION CANCELLED
Jim Buffington, K5JIM, Publicity Chairman for the Amateur Radio Lighthouse Society (ARLHS) announced Monday that its planned convention, which was set for November 9-11th in Brunswick, Georgia, has been cancelled. Spokesman Jim, K5JIM, said the event was apparently a victim of the terrorist bombings, at least in part, since some members who had planned to fly in from overseas opted out. "For that matter," said Buffington, "some who would have flown from distant locations in the U.S. also indicated a reluctance to travel."

"Postponed would be a better word," said Buffington, "because we're already making plans for a meeting in 2002 and expect to announce the dates soon." Those who made reservations at the Holiday Inn in Brunswick are reminded to cancel them.

AP, PAKISTAN
Peter/ON6TT and Robert/S53R reportedly have left Afghanistan and are now staying in Islamabad. Both are expected to be active possibly on 160-17 meters. Both are expected to try to receive callsigns, however, Robert and Peter were heard using the callsigns AP2ARS. Robert has been heard on 40/30 meters over the past week.

C6,BAHAMAS
Ed, K8EP, will be active as C6A/K8EP from November 20-27th. Activity will be on CW/SSB and an entry in the CQWW CW Contest. QSL via K8EP.

CONTEST REMINDER!
Mike, VK4DX, wants to remind everyone that the Oceania DX Contests, formerly known as VK/ZL Contests, will be held October 6-7th (SSB) and October 13-14th (CW). As of this year, the time has been changed, so the contest starts at 0800z on Saturday and ends at 0800z on Sunday. FM, MARTINIQUE (Update)
The Pordenone Gangsters (IV3TDM/Dan, IV3JVJ/Luca and IV3BTY/Andrea) will once again be here and will operate from October 22-26th. The callsigns will be FM/homecall, and they should be able to have two stations active simultaneously on two different bands. Their activity will be mainly SSB, but Luca is expected to operate some RTTY and Andrea on CW. On October 27-28th, they will join the FM5GU team for the CQWW SSB Contest. QSLs for FM/homecall operations should go to IV3TDM's CBA. QSLs for FM5GU operation is via KU9C's CBA. All details are available on the web site:

FO, MARQUESAS ISLANDS
Operators SP9FIH and SQ9LR will be on the air as FO/SP9FIH probably begining in the second half of October (depends on their job duties and airlines schedule). They plan to be active on 80-6 meters SSB and RTTY for 2 weeks from Nuku Hiva (OC-027). QSL via SP9FIH.

FS, FRENCH SAINT MARTIN
Look for Ann/W2AZK and Brian/KF2HC of the North Jersey DX Association (NJDXA) to be active from the French side of Saint Martin (IOTA NA-105) November 26th through December 2nd. They will operate SSB and CW on 40-10 meters using the callsigns FS/home. The bands 160/80 meters will be added if circumstances allow. Because of anticipated luggage restrictions ,they are planning a modest station which will include an IC-706, wire antennas, and possibly a Force-12 Sigma vertical dipole. Yagi antennas (including perhaps 6m), and a second station may be added if they find they have room to transport the extra equipment. QSL via their home callsign direct or via the bureau. IOTA NEWS
AS-043. Operators JI1PLF/1, 7N1GMK/1, and 7N1PVR/1 plan to be active from Hachijo Island, November 2-5th. They will be on 80-10 meters, including the WARC bands SSB and CW. QSL via their home callsigns.

OOPPPSS (Correction in OPDX.530)
Wolff, DJ5JH (HSC #372), informs OPDX that the HSC (mentioned in last week's bulletin) is not a Hungarian CW Club, but is a German High Speed Club founded in 1951 by Richard Dargatz, DL1XA, and others with over 1000 members. To become a member, one must have at least 5 QSOs of 30 minutes at 25 wpm with 5 different HSC members and the QSL cards with the confirmation of these facts.

OX3, GREENLAND
Ben, OZ5IPA, will be active from Kangerlussuak from October 27th through November 5th, outside of the CQWW Contest. Ben will be active on SSB/CW and on all bands including the WARC as a single operator 12 hrs/day (1000-2200z). There is a slight possibility he will be active on SSTV and RTTY October 30th. He will participate in the International Police Associations Contest the first weekend of November. His QSL is good for the "Sherlock Holmes Award" and most police awards. QSL INFO AND NEWS
Mac, WA4FFW, reports, as of September 28th, all 3Y0C QSLs which he has received have been processed and mailed. This includes those not found in the log, Bureau, and SWL reports. He ask that you allow 2 weeks for delivery due to slowed mail to some areas, especially International mail. Mac stated all request which did not come up in the computer database were very carefully checked against Chuck's paper log. Resposes to all cards received have been completed. Approximately 90% of those NIL in the computer log was found in the paper log. The delay in the latest mailing of cards were due to the time required to verify against the paper log, and it certainly proved to be worth the effort for most of the requests. Mac wants to thank N4OL and WJ4T who worked endlessly to help get the cards out. A special thanks also to those who sent extra financial help with the QSL expense. He will continue to process incoming cards promptly, but it will not be daily. He will now work on a backlog of cards for other stations he manages.

NOT THE QSL MANAGER. Hannes, DL3NM (ex-DL3NEO) is NOT the QSL Manager for 4U1ITU or 4U1VIC. He is receiving many direct QSLs for these calls, especially from USA. He can QSL only the following activities:

4U1VIC: November 20-21st, 1998.

RSGB HF AND IOTA CONVENTION
will be held October 12-14th, at the Beaumont Conference Centre, Old Windsor, UK. A full line of programs and speakers are scheduled to take place at this year's event (OH2BH, G3KMA, G3ZAY, G3SWH, RW3GW, UA9OBA, The D68C Story, 3B6RF Agalega Dxpedition, VP8SDX Falklands, Cocos-Keeling/Chatham Island by G3SXW, ZD7K/ZD8K, Logbook of the World by N7NG and much much more). SPECIAL EVENT
Eric/KU6J and Ron/K6KYJ, will be active from 160 meters through 440 MHz on SSB, CW, Digital, RTTY, Satellite, and FM using the special callsign N6C. The "Special Event" callsign N6C has been assigned to the "2001 Colusa County California QSO Party Expedition". Their location will be at the Black Oak Camp (elevation 5,800 ft), in the Mendocino National Forest. This callsign will be valid only from October 4-11th. QSL via KU6J.

T30, WEST KIRIBATI
Eric, T30ES, a Peace Corps volunteer on Butari Tari Island (OC-17), continues to be active. He was heard on 14280 kHz usually between 1000-1200z on Thursdays and Sunday evenings (his time) and sometimes on Tuesday. He will be there for another year plus. He runs on low power (TS-430), on batteries which are charged on a solar panel which he borrows from a friend. His antenna is a dipole strung between two coconut trees. T32, EASTERN KIRIBATI
Hiro, JP1TRJ, informed OPDX that he and Takashi/ JR7TEQ and Hiro/JA1PCY will be active from Christmas Island (OC-024) from October 1-7th, signing T32RJ, T32EQ and T32CY respectively. Their activitty will be on SSB/CW/RTTY on 160-6 meters. QSL T32CY via JA1PCY, T32EQ via JR7TEQ and T32RJ via JP1TRJ.

TI, COSTA RICA
Goram, SM4DHF, will be active as TI2/SM4DHF from the QTH of Henry TI2HMG, from October 24th to November 4th. He will be taking part in the CQ WW Phone Contest as a Single Op/Single Band/Low Power entry (10, 15 or 20 meters, which will be decided later). Before and after the contest he will also be active on CW and RTTY. QSL via homecall SM4DHF.

V3, BELIZE
Begin look for Joe, K8JP, to be active and signing V31JP. He will be there until April 2002. He is mainly a CW operator.

VP5, TURKS AND CAICOS ISLANDS
The VP5T group will be operating from VP5JM's place on Providenciales (NA-002) in the Turks & Caicos Islands during the period of October 23-30th. Operators will be Frank/WA2VYA, Ken/K2WB and Jack/N2VW. They plan a Multi-Multi operation during the CQWW SSB Contest, October 27-28th as VP5T. QSL via N2VW. Before and after the contest the operators will operate as VP5/homecall. Their activity will be mostly on CW, the WARC bands and PSK31. QSL to homecall.

XU, CAMBODIA
Alan, F6BFH, informs OPDX that a French team (from the Presence Radioamateur) will be here between October 22nd through November 10th. The following will be involved with this operation as well as their specific duties:
Yves, F5TYY - Radio Op and video.
Alan, F6BFH - Radio Op and video. His XYL Danielle will take pictures, be narrator on the video and give "Moral Support".
Jacqueline, F6EGG - YL Radio Op and medical person in charge.
Bernard, F9IE - Radio Op and Logistic transmissions. His XYL Micheline will take pictures, design the QSL and give "Moral Support".

Alan/F6BFH has received his callsign, XU7ABW, the others will go to the Telecom Ministry in Phnom Penh to receive their lisences. The team will have two IC-706MK2 radios with a dipole for 80-6 meters and plan to be active on CW and SSB. They will be travelling like backpackers with only knapsacks, including the radio equipment. They will try to activate Koh Poah Island (AS-133) in the Shianoukville archipelago. QSL via home callsigns, and the bureau is 100%. Alan states this operation would not be possible without the help of Franck, DL4KQ (XU7ABR). Also, a special thanks goes to Mister Christian Pichon, Logistic and Technical Advisor for the Cambodian- German Health Project, and the team of Paul/F2YT, Josiane/F5MVT (Honor Members of Presence Radioamateur), for special technical support. XX9, MACAU
Ed, K8EP, will be active as XX9TEP from October 11-17th. Activity will be on CW/SSB and probably on all bands. QSL to K8EP.

YN, NICARAGUA
Laurie, G3UML, informs OPDX that station YN2EJ will be activated from the city of Granada, Nicaragua, for the CQWWDX Phone Contest at the end of October. Operators will be Eddie/W5GCX, Laurie/G3UML and Frosty/K5LBU. QSLs for EU/AF are via G3UML, all others go to W5GCX. All cards will be answered. This is a relatively modest Multi-Op/Single-Tx operation, using Icom transceivers, a small amplifier, a mini-quad and wire antennas. Last year the two U.S. Ops, signing YN2EJG, provided the only activity from Nicaragua and made almost 3000 QSOs.

ZL7 OPERATION WRAP-UP
The ZL7/G3SXW and ZL7/G3TXF operations are now QRT, but if you are interested, they now have the stats by continent and band from their trip to Chatham Island posted on their Web site:

ZONE 2
Hisato, 7K1WLE, is planning to stay at Resolute Bay on Cornwallis Island in the Queen Elizabeth Islands Group, Nunavut, Canada (Canada north polar region: CQ ZONE2, IOTA NA-009), from October 25-31st. He will possibly sign VY0/7K1WLE or AK2M/VY0. He will use an IC-706MKII w/IC-2KL and wire antenna. He will be active mainly on the low bands. His operation from ZONE 2 on low bands will be a great interest to low banders because Hisato's operation will be influenced by an aurora propagation. The sunrise/sunset at Resolute Bay is 1534z/2030z. Pilot stations for him are JP1IOF/Toshi and JF6OJX/Tad. QSL via JN1HOW.
