He reports that the C3SS tribander has some element damage and he's trying to get some parts shipped to Wake in a week or two. If this does not work out then he will continue to use the 40m vertical and a long wire for other bands. Operating times will be as usual with a start time around 0730z and lasting for a few hours. Again he hopes to be on the island for four to six weeks and this will be his last KH9 trip for 2003."

    QSL INFO AND NEWS
Members of the F6KNL Radio Club of Cenon (REF33), operators F8BBL, F1DHX, F0DVX and F0ECL, were active from Margaux Island (DIFM: AT-102). QSL via F8BBL Bureau or direct.

Steve, G4EDG, informs OPDX that direct QSLs for his ZL4/G4EDG (OC-203) operation were mailed July 24th. All bureau cards will be processed as they arrive.

Nilay, TA3YJ, informs OPDX that QSL cards of TA3YJ, TA3YJ/0, TA3YJ/3, TA3YJ/4, TA3YJ/LH, SV1/TA3YJ, LZ2/TA3YJ, TA3J, TA3J/0, TA3J/1, TA3J/3, TA3J/4, TA3J/LH, SV1/TA3J, LZ1/TA3J, LZ2/TA3J, YM3BU, YM3ATA, YM3SV, YM75TA, YM21TA, YM3LZ/WPX2000 and YM3LZ/WAE2000 were sent to the QSL Bureaus of Cyprus, Algeria, Croatia, Malta, Kuwait, Oman, Chile, Portugal, Uruguay, Germany, Spain, Ireland, Moldova, Tajikistan, France, United Kingdom, Liechtenstein, Ecuador, Colombia, Republic Of Korea (South Korea), Panama, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Czech Republic, Belgium, Denmark, Netherlands, Brazil, Russia, Slovenia, Poland, San Marino, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Cote D'Ivoire, Ukraine, Australia (VK2, VK3, VK4, VK5 and VK7), Mexico, Latvia, Romania, Venezuela, New Zealand direct July 25th.

POSTAL RATES INCREASED (VE and CX). The cost of DXing is going up again. It was announced that postal rates will go up in Canada and Uruguay. Hal, K4HB, provides the following info:
For Canada: Effective January 12, 2004, Canada will increase its rates as follows:

  • Canada to Canada will increase from .48 to .49
  • Canada to the US will increase from .65 to .80
  • Canada to all other countries will increase from 1.25 to 1.40

As of July 25, 2003, 1 USD = 1.38 CAD. Unless the USD picks up on the foreign exchange between now and January 2004, 1 USD will be a little short for sufficient postage from Canada to countries other than the US.

    http://www.canadapost.ca/personal/corporate/about/newsroom/pr/default-e.asp?prid=924

For Uruguay: This country increased its rates on July 1, 2003. Postage to the US and other countries went from 24 pesos to 36 pesos. (Don't know about the rate to other SA countries) The present exchange rate is 1USD = 27 Pesos, so 1USD is not enough for return postage anymore.

Hal, K4HB, states, "The 'Foreign Postage Rates' Web page has been updated with this information. Thanks to Pierre, VE2PIJ, and Bill Plum for passing this on to us."
