DXCC NEWS (Logbook of The World to Inaugurate DXCC Credits Sysytem!)
Excerpts from "The ARRL Letter" (Vol. 23, No. 18, April 30, 2004), states
that the ARRL's "Logbook of the World" secure contact database is to debut
its DXCC credits system Wednesday, May 5th. ARRL Membership Services
Manager Wayne Mills, N7NG, says the long-awaited LoTW component will
permit users to apply contact "matches" in Logbook's 41.4 million QSO
and growing database to their DXCC records. To date, Mills reports, more
than 2.5 million QSO matches already exist in the system. "It's a pretty
straightforward process," Mills said of crediting LoTW QSO matches to
DXCC. "What participants need to do first is go to the LoTW site and read
the instructions." Information available will include a list of frequently
asked questions--FAQs. Before doing anything else, LoTW newcomers will
have to obtain a Logbook of the World digital certificate and download
the software. Since LoTW launched last September, it has validated nearly
10,000 digital certificates from approximately 7000 individual users.
Obtaining a digital certificate, which authenticates each user under a
particular callsign, is free. For more details, please read this week's
"The ARRL Letter" and visit the following Web page at:

GM, SCOTLAND (Many Scottish Islands To Be Activated!)
Andre/GM3VLB and
Alex/GM0DHZ plan to activate many Scottish Island in IOTA EU-008, EU-010
EU-111 and EU-123 in the coming weeks and months. Their planned schedule
is as follows:
1st DXpedition: IOTA EU-008 (Inner Hebrides)
May 17-19th, Coll (SCOTIA DI12)
May 19-21st, Tiree (SCOTIA DI10)
May 21-23rd, Gunna (SCOTIA DI11) This is a NEW ONE!!
May 23-24th, Tiree (SCOTIA DI10)
2nd DXpedition: IOTA EU-010 (Outer Hebrides)
In June they will activate another "new one", Burns Island
(HI26). This will be activated, together with Scarp (HI24),
Chaluim Chille (HI25), before heading to the Uist Island Group
(EU-010) from where they hope to activate the Monachs EU-111
(DI22) as well as Kirkibost (HI12), Eriskay (HI05) and probably
several more such as HI15, HI13, HI10, HI08, HI11, HI06 and
perhaps HI03 and HI04 etc.....as in the past, plans are very
much "time and WX-dependent".
3rd DXpedition: Andre and Alex will (in June? July?) "complete" the Skye area (EU-008) islands. They have the permission for Rona (DI27), Scalpay (CN18), Longay (CN19), Wiay (CN21), Soay (CN16), Crowlins (CN20), Staffin (DI28) and Flodigarry (DI29).
4th DXpedition: Andre and Alex "may" activate IOTA EU-123 where they have permission to land and to operate on Ailsa Craig (DI01) and on Lady Isle (DI02) at the end of the bird breeding season. This will be around the end of July/beginning of August.
ADDED NOTES: Andre states that they are also planning a return visit to the Shiants (EU-112) either on the Hebridean trip or the Skye expedition. Also, St. Kilda (EU-059) is looking less and less likely. Andre feels that without support, this one will become an increasingly rare IOTA. QSL all activity via their home callsigns. Full details of the islands and the "Scottish Island Award" program (SCOTIA) are available on, and can be downloaded from, the following Web site at:
HAMVENTION DX HAPPENINGS
DX FORUM
Jay, K4ZLE (Moderator 2004 HamVention DX Forum), announced that the
program for the 2004 HamVention DX Forum has been finalized and it
will be a good program this year with something of interest to every
DXer. If you will be at the HamVention, mark Saturday, May 15th, from
1230 - 1515 for the DX Forum. It is scheduled for room 4 in Hara Arena.
The program is as follows:
1) A special program on DXpeditioning in the 1960's. Last year the SW Ohio DX Association was given access to some 16mm film of the first (1965) San Felix operation, CE0XA, as well as a VHS tape of converted 8mm films for the same operation as well as the KS4FW, Serrana Bank, and HK0AB, Bajo Nuevo, 1962 expedition. Even as this is being promulgated, work is being done to prepare a historical presentation on these operations. In the interest of time, SWODXA will probably only show the CE0XA portion at Dayton.
2) 35 Plus Years of DXing from Central and South America by Dr. Rick Dorsch, NE8Z, HC2MC, etc. You may have read the recent article in World Radio Magazine by Rick. He will have time to expand upon the subject and provide more data at the DX Forum.
3) Ham Radio in Iraq a la 2004 by Fred Matos, W3ICM, YI3DX. Until last month Fred was Director, Spectrum Management, Coaliltion Provisional Authority Ministry of Communications in Iraq. Part of his role there was issuing amateur licenses.
4) The 3B9C Story by one of the team members, Ivan Davies, G3IZD. If you are following recent activities, you know this operation was completed only a few weeks ago. It is Jay's understanding that HamVention will be the first venue for the after action show. Be among the first to see the pics and hear about 3B9C from those who made it happen.
5) DXCC announcements and updates by Wayne Mills, N7NG. Wayne will talk about the latest info on the DXCC program from ARRL HQ.
DX HOSPITALITY SUITE
The Northern Ohio DX Association (along Janeen Hire, W8ZET) will once
again sponsor a Hospitality Suite at this year's Dayton Hamvention.

Thursday evening -- Look for signs!). All DXers/Contesters are welcome.
