100 POUND DXPEDITION (VP2M - Update/Reminder)
The "Buddipole Users on
Monserrat" (BUMS) have made their final preparations for their lightweight
DXpedition. Operations are planned for January 29th through February 6th.
The seven operators are: Budd/W3FF (VP2MFF), Chris/W6HFP (VP2MHF), Scott/
NE1RD (VP2MRD), Mike/KC4VG (VP2MVG), Paul/KB9AVO (VP2MVO), Bob/AB7ST
(VP2MST) and Tom/W4OKW (VP2MTC). They will establish two stations at
Gingerbread Hill, one SSB/CW and the other operating various data modes
including PSK31 and RTTY. Several portable stations will be operated
during the day from various interesting points on the island including
the Montserrat Volcano Observatory, hilltops along hiking trails, and
beaches using portable antennas, batteries, and solar power.
DXpedition pilots supporting the operation from their homes in the U.S. are Dan/WZ1P and Dave/KZ1O. QSL all contacts from operators via NE1RD. Additional information on the operation, including an on-line log, are available from the DXpedition's Web site at:
2U0, GUERNSEY (EU-114)
Kevan, 2E0WMG/ISWL G-21098, will be active as
2U0WMG from March 19th-23rd. If you need to work EU-114 for the IOTA award,

3B6, AGALEGA (DXpedition Update)
Members of Polski Zwiazek Krotkofalowcow
(PZK)(the Polish Amateur Radio Union) and SP-DX-Club are organizing a
DXpedition to the Island of Agalega. Team leader Witek, SP9MRO, informs
OPDX that the group has received their license and will be active from
March 22nd to April 2nd. The callsigns to be use are 3B6/SP9MRO and
3B6/SP9PT. A copy of their license can be viewed on their Web page at:
"The Dxpedition cost is huge! We are going to travel for nearly 1200 km on the Indian Ocean and live on the island which is practically isolated from all the other people except the local community. There are no planes landing. But as we have heard from our HB9 friends, there are nearly 200 extremely kind people who live there and are very friendly towards hams. We are encouraging all of you who would like to help us to do so. All the information needed can be found at our webpage."Earlier reports indicate that activity is also possible from Seychelles (S7), Mauritius (3B8) and /MM operations from the Indian Ocean. Remember the team is looking for sponsors to help off-set the huge expenses of this DXpedition.
3W, VIETNAM
This one was received a little late, but if you worked 3W3W
during this past week's CQ 160 Meters CW Contest, operators were Eddy/XV1X
and Stan/3W9JR. This special callsign was issued to them on January 17th
to be used during the contest. The operators of 3W3W operated from a
location 15 km southeast of Haiphong, Vietnam. The antenna was a vertical
feed Delta loop directly above the sea water facing towards Europe, Japan
and North America. QSL via OK1DOT, DIRECT ONLY.
4S, SRI LANKA
Joel, F5PAC, will once again be active from here as 4S7PAG
from February 2-22nd. He will be on the main island, but on February 10th
and 11th, he will be on one of Sri Lanka's Coastal Islands (AS-171,
possibly Barberyn Island) for some IOTA activity. He will take his FT-897
and vertical antennas for 20 and 17 meters. QSL via F5PAC.
6W, SENEGAL
Jacques, F6HMJ, will be active as 6W/F6HMJ from February 9th
to March 13th. Activity will be on 80-10 meters on CW, SSB and RTTY. QSL
via his home callsign.
7W0, ALGERIA
Just a reminder that operators Mike/DB1JAW and Michael/DK5MH
will be active from the northern part of the Sahara using the special
callsigns 7W0JAW and 7W0MH, respectively, between February 2-10th. Activity
will be on 24 hours a day on 80-10 meters, mainly on SSB with a little bit
of PSK31 and RTTY (maybe). The main activity will be on the following
suggested frequencies: 14185, 14290, 18120, 18150, 24950 and 24980 kHz.
All QSLs are to be sent direct only to DB1JAW (SAE is not required, return

9M6, EAST MALAYSIA (Update/Correction)
David, VK2CZ, informs OPDX that
he was a little off on the location he reported last week. He will be
attending an Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Region 10 meeting
in Kota (not Koto) Kinabalu (9M6 and not 9M8), March 25-27th. He also
mentioned that he plans to be active as 9M6/VK2CZ (not 9M6/VK8AA) "during
the last 6 hours" of the CQ WPX SSB Contest (March 24-25th) as a Single-Op/
Single-Band (20m)/Low-Power entry.
ANTARCTIC NEWS
Dag, 3Y9SDA, who is currently operating from the Norwegian Troll Base
Station (WAP NOR-10), will leave to head back home for Tromso on February
5th. He continues to be active on 14130 kHz between 1700-1830z. Hopefully,
he will move up the band for the stateside guys during his last week.
Francois, F8DVD, announces that he has been issued the special callsign TM4IPY to celebrate the beginning of the 4th International Polar Year (IPY), and will be active between April 1-14th. Activity will be on all bands, SSB and CW. A special QSL card will be available by the Bureau or direct to: Francois Bergez, 6, Rue de la Liberte, F-71000 MACON, FRANCE (with 1 new IRC or 1 USD for Europe, 2 USDs outside Europe). TM4IPY will be referenced as WAP-84.
Gianni, I1HYW, reports that some callsigns for the IPY have already been assigned/issued by different country's administrations. The first ones issued are: TM4IPY to F8DVD (see above), IA8IPY to IK8WEJ, and IA0IPY to I0OCD. They expect more callsigns to be issued shortly and the list of entries will grow. They remind DXers that the 4th IPY celebration will start on March 1st. IPY special stations will be active throughout the year at different times. Being also a great Antarctic event, the IPY callsigns will be referenced with a WAP number as well and could be valid for the WAP-ASEA and IPY Awards (the first of which has been presented recently by the Italian ARI Cassino).
Gianni, IZ8CGS, informs: "ANTARCTICA AWARD - The Mediterraneo DX Club's Antarctica Award Directory is the official source of information for the IOTA Program on stations active from Antarctic bases. It acts as an extension of the IOTA Directory and provides the IOTA reference number for each base. The updated edition of the Antarctica Award Directory is available for download at:
C6, BAHAMAS
Look for Bob/N4BP (C6AKQ) and Pete/N8PR (C6AHR) to be active
from February 12-19th. A few days later, Kevin/K4PG (C6APG) will join
them and be active from February 15-19th. The trio plans to be active as
individual station entries in the ARRL DX CW Contest (February 17-18th).
Pete will be on 160 meters and will try to set a new world record in the
contest. Pete hopes everyone will work him. Bob will be on 40 meters (look
for him, he is also trying to set a record!). Kevin will be on 80 meters
(look for him too, he gets lonely). Prior to the contest, check all bands
including the WARC bands. Before the contest and when 80 meters is not
open in the contest, look for C6APG on 6 meters (when he is not sleeping).

C9, MOZAMBIQUE (IOTA Op)
Operators Jose/CT1APE and Filipe/CT2GLO will
be active from Bazaruto Island (AF-072, WLOTA LH-0816) as C98APE and
C98GLO, respectively, between February 18-24th. Activity will be on all
HF bands with modes of CW, SSB, RTTY and PSK31. QSL via their home
callsigns.
CE, CHILE
Lucas, LU1FAM, will be active as CE/LU1FAM or possibly CE3/LU1FAM
from March 1-5th before and after the ARRL DX SSB Contest (March 3-4th).
During the contest he will team up with Roberto, CE4CT, and be active as
CE4CT as a Multi-Single entry. QSL CE3/LU1FAM via AC7DX. QSL CE4CT via

DXCC NEWS
Bill Moore, NC1L, ARRL DXCC Branch Manager, reports the
following:" 2007 DXCC Honor Roll Deadline Approaching
Just a reminder that the deadline for the next Honor Roll listing is
March 31, 2007. Your submission must be postmarked March 31, 2007.
The Honor Roll list will appear in August 2007 QST. There are 337
current entities on the DXCC list and you must be at 337 (for Top of
the Honor Roll) or within the numerical top 10 to qualify for the Honor
Roll. The current minimum number for Honor Roll is 328. (Deleted entities
do not count towards Honor Roll). Top of Honor Roll and Honor Roll plaques
and lapel pins are available to all past and current Honor Roll members.

INTERESTING WEB SITE
Well-known DXer, Peter, ON6TT, has put together
an interesting Web site which includes writing short stories about Peter's
travels, people he has met, and situations he has encountered. Many of
the stories deal with the DXpeditions he participated in, such as FO0CI,
AH1A, VK0IR, 3Y0PI or DX activities like D2TT, 5X1T, YA5T, AP2ARS,
YU8/ON6TT, etc... Some are simply stories of every day life during his
work for a UN humanitarian relief organization. Peter states, "I hope
they form an interesting read for the DX community." His travel short

IOTA NEWS
EU-008. Operator Jon, M0OVL, will be active as MM0OVL/P from Island
of Mull in the Inner Hebrides, July 27-29th. Activity will be
on 80-10 meters and entry in the 2007 IOTA Contest. QSL via

EU-011. Members of the Cray Valley Radio Society team will once again (4th trip) activate St. Mary's Island in the Isles of Scilly for one last time during the IOTA Contest (July 28-29th). The team will be there between July 24th and August 2nd. Operators mentioned are: Dave/G4BUO, Justin/G4TSH, Chris/G0FDZ, Nobby/ G0VJG, Richard/G7GLW and Simon/M3CVN. In the past the team has operated on the WARC bands and 6m prior to the contest either using their callsigns above /P or the club callsign of G3RCV/P. During the contest they will be active as M8C and after until they leave the Islands under the callsigns above. QSL via G4DFI, the QSL Manager of M8C and the Club callsign.
EU-030. Operator Jens, DL8WOW, will be active as OZ/DL8WOW from Bornholm Island (BO-001 for the Danish Islands Award, WLOTA LH-2203), August 5-17th. Activity will be on 40-10 meters, mainly CW, with an FT-897 at 100 watts. QSL via his home callsign.
OC-164. John, VK6HZ, will be active from Rottnest Island (WLOTA LH-2197), March 5-11th. The callsign for the operation will be announced shortly. Activity will be on SSB and PSK, possibly CW. This will be a holiday style operation, and John will use an IC-7000. QSL via VK6HZ.
KOSOVO (Independence/New Entity?)
"Kosovo is to declare independence in
the next few months, with the tacit support of the EU and NATO, in an
effort to resolve the eight-year impasse on the status of the province at
the heart of the 1999 war between NATO and Belgrade", states the Financial
Times this past week. Read the story at:
KP2/WP2, U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS
Operators John/K3TEJ and John/K3CT will be
active from St. Croix as WP2Z during the ARRL International DX CW Contest
(February 17-18th) as a Multi-2 entry. QSL via KU9C. Activity before and
after the contest will probably be on 160m and the WARC bands by KP2/K3TEJ
and KP2/K3CT. The operators will be here between February 14-21st. QSL
to their home callsigns.

Beginning in March, look for some new prefixes to show up
for Greenland (OX), Faroe Island (OY) and Denmark (OZ). While still keeping
the old prefixes, look for stations to use the following new prefixes in:

LU2ERA/Z (PLEASE NOTE). Henry, LU4DXU, informs the DX community that
the recent activity by LU2ERA/Z from South Orkney will not be good
for DXCC. It was suggested that operator Hugo, who is at the South
Orkney Base, be on the air without knowing that he never renewed
his LU2ERA license and lost it. This callsign has now been issued to
another individual. As soon Henry received this information, he spoke
with Hugo to cancel the operation. All QSL cards received will be
returned to the sender. Henry hopes that Hugo eventually renews his
license and is able to activate such rare Bases in the near future.

TK, CORSICA (EU-014)
V8, BRUNEI
Kanzi, JA4ENL, will once again visit "The Sultanate of Brunei"
and be active as V85NL between, March 8-12th. Activity will be mainly
CW on all bands (including 160m) depending on the propagation. QSL direct
to JA4ENL.
V8, BRUNEI
Ambran, V85SS, reports that the bands are getting better
now, and he is active on most days on all bands CW only. He states that
he has good success with stateside stations on 80/40 meters between
1200-2200z on most evenings. On 20 meters, he listens around 0800z for
Hawaii and later for the West Coast. Ambran is just operating barefoot,
about 50 watts into GP vertical and dipole for the top band.
ADDED NOTE:
Ambran is currently building a small shack (behind his QTH) with a bedroom
(for 3 to 4 persons), sitting room/radio room, shower and kitchenette for
a DXpedition, contesting or just holidaying hams who wants to see Brunei.
He hopes to rent the shack out possibly about April.
VK9N, NORFOLK ISLAND (Update)
Members of the Bavarian Contest Club (BCC)
will be active as VK9DNX from Norfolk Island (OC-005) between February
15th and March 3rd. Two new members (Ben/DL6FBL and Joerg/DL8WPX )have
been added to team of Markus/DJ7EO, Heye/DJ9RR, Christian/DL1MGB, Dietmar/
DL3DXX, Tom/DL5LYM and Dieter/DL8OH. Activity is planned for 160-10 meters
on CW, SSB and RTTY, with a focus on the lower bands. QSL Manager is Mario,
DJ2MX. The group will also have an "Online QSL Request System" (OQRS) for

VQ5, TURK AND CAICOS ISLANDS (Rare Prefix)
Jim, W9VNE, will be signing
with a rarely used prefix VQ5 next weekend for a 48 hour period. His main
focus is to participate in the FOC Marathon (a members only event) on CW.
Jim also knows that some prefix hunters will want to exchange reports too,
so he will be pleased to give any prefix hunter a report too. Operation
starts late Friday afternoon, February 2nd at 2100z through 2100z, February
4th. The FOC Marathon is the annual on the air event for the "First Class
Operator's Club (FOC). There are members throughout the world on all
continents. The exchange for members is their membership number. For
non-members an RST will suffice. Jim has been an FOC member for more than
36 of his 68 years. Jim just celebrated his 54th anniversary of being a
ham. He was nominated to the FOC (in 1970) by W9IOP the first editor of
CQ Magazine and K4FW the founder of Electro Voice and Ten Tec as well as
his long time mentor, W9VW. Jim operates this event and VQ5FOC in their
memory and various contributions to the ham fraternity. The FOC Web site

VU7, LAKSHADWEEP ISLANDS (VU2RG News)

* VU7MY Minicoy: VU7MY will stay active until January 30th, 2007. The Minicoy QSL card goes via the same QSL route as VU7RG and the logs will be published later. EDITOR'S NOTE: VU7MY was heard early Sunday (EDT) begging for contacts on 14260 kHz around 1430z.
* Special QSL Cards: The special QSL cards will go in the mail right now. The envelope is stampted by the Kadmat Lakshadweep Post Office.
* On-line Logs: On Kadmat, we struggled to get the logs uploaded on a daily basis, we had limited Internet access restrictions at the local high school, unreliable transportation and the operating sites were separated 2 Km. Furthermore, we also had to make QSOs with you so time was flying. By the time you read this we have sent the final logs to DL5NAM for Agatti, Bangaram and Kadmat. The Minicoy logs will be published on-line somewhere in February 2007.
* EDITOR'S FINAL NOTES: QSL info was published in last week's OPDX.794 bulletin. Depending in what IARU Region you are in, there are three different QSL routes for this operation. It is recommend to visit the VU7RG Web page for more details on how to QSL to each different route, especially for Bureau QSLs. YS, EL SALVADOR
You only have a few more days to work Roberto, I2JIN,
as YS3/I2JIN. His activity will end January 31st. He seems to favor 30
and 17 meters CW. However, there have been some QSNs on 80/40 meters CW
and 20 meters SSB. QSL via his home callsign. An online log can be found

ZL6, NEW ZEALAND (Special Activity)
Look for Charlie, ZL3CED (#9039),
to be active throughout the month of February, using New Zealand FISTS
Club station ZL6FF. Working ZL6FF is worth five points towards FISTS
awards, including the FISTS Down Under Award.
