3D2, FIJI (Update/Reminder and IOTA Op)
A group of five Ukrainian radio amateurs will be activating two IOTA groups between late April and early May. Operators mentioned are: Len/UR3HR, Sergey/UR7HTX, Max/ UR7HTZ (3D2TZ), Alex/UT5UY (3D2UY) and Alex/UX0LL (3D2AP). Their activity will start from Taveuni Island (OC-016), using the callsign 3D2AP, 3D2TZ and 3D2UY between April 27th and May 3rd. The team will then move to one of the "Most Wanted IOTAs and Most Wanted Fijian IOTA Group (only 7.8% IOTA Chasers are credited) and activate Yanuca Island in the Ringgold Isles Group (OC-189) as 3D2RI (suffix RI=Ringgold Isles) between May 3-7th. The group plans to have 2-3 well equipped stations active and operating simultaneously using YAGI antennas. There will be a special effort on the lower bands.

4K, AZERBAIJAN
Vlad, 4K9W, from Baku, seems to be active most days after 1945z on 40 and 30 meters CW. He was also heard this past weekend on 160/80 meters SSB during the YU DX Contest. QSL to DL6KVA.

5W, SAMOA
The N8S DXpedition team is now active until April 24th. Look for the callsign 5W5AA to be used. Operators are also using their own 5W callsigns. Please be careful and check their prefixes (5W5 and 5W0). QSL 5W5AA via YT1AD or YZ7AA, 5W5LP via K3LP, 5W0AA via YZ7AA, 5W0NU via YU7NU, 5W0JT via JT1CO, and 5W0SV via SV2BFN. The team will be disassembling their camp and antenns between April 24-26th. Some of the operators will head to the USA and attend 58th Annual International DX Convention, Visalia, CA, between April 27-29th.

6W, SENEGAL (Update)
Dani, EA4ATI, is headed back to Dakar again. He informed OPDX last week that he will probably use the callsigns 6W/EA4ATI and 6W1EA for contests. He is expected to be there this month and will stay until April of next year. Dani informed OPDX this week that he will be active on all bands and will bring a small amplifier with him this time. 8Y/SI9, SWEDEN (Special Event)
Members of the Jemtland Radio Amateurs (SK3JR) will be hosting the 2007 Scandinavian Young Ladies Radio Amateurs (SYLRA) meeting in Ostersund, Sweden, from August 23-26th. Look for the special callsign 8S3SYL to be on the air during the meeting. The QSL Manager for 8S3SYL is SM3CVM. QSL via the bureau is preferred, but direct cards are OK with SASE and sufficient return postage (one new IRC or two USDs). QSL without sufficient postage will be sent via the bureau. 9M2, SPRATLY ISLANDS
Gerben, PG5M, is now active as 9M2/PG5M from Pulau Layang Layang, Spratly Islands (AS-051) until 23 April. Activity will be CW only on 40-10 meters, using a FT-897 and only a vertical antenna; possibly a G5RV dipole. QSNs over the past weekend show Gerben has been active mainly on/around 10102-10106, 14020 and 18073 kHz. QSL via his home callsign, direct or by the bureau. A2, BOTSWANA (Update/Topband)
Frosty, K5LBU, reports that this July there will be at least 6 operators in their group active from Botswana starting on the 6th of July until the 20th. They plan to have a 72 foot vertical for 160/80 meters and a 4 square for 40 meters. They hope to have their A25 callsigns soon.

BS7, SCARBOROURGH REEF
As of press time, there is still no news on this upcoming operation that is expected to take place "ten days in late April." DXers should be alert and expect anything at anytime to happen. This means they may just show up on the air. All we can provide at this time are the following suggested frequencies:
CW - 1826.5, 3504, 7004, 10124, 10104, 14024, 18074, 21024, 24894 and 28024
SSB - 3799, 7057, 14185, 18145, 21295, 24945 and 28475
RTTY - 14080, 21080 and 28080 kHz

HB0, LIECHTENSTEIN
Look for a team of at least six German operators to be active from Chalet Barsula (1200m ASL), near Triesenberg, between May 26-30th. Activity will be on 160/80/40/30/20/15/10/2 meters and 70cm. Modes will be CW, SSB, FM, PSK31, RTTY and WSJT. The group plans to use 1000 watts on HF, 100 watts on 144 MHz into a 9 element F9FT antenna and 20 watts into an 11 element Flexa yagi on 432 MHz. HS, THAILAND (80m HS Plans)
Charles, HS0ZCW (aka K4VUD), announces that he will have an 80m antenna functioning at the HS0ZCW station (a sloper antenna pointed North). He wants more 80m HS activity, so he is asking for direct replies to sked suggestions. However, please note these limits he has announced...

"1. Skeds must be on Thailand time/dates WEEKENDS because HS ops can not operate this band unless there is a ham contest running, and contests are almost all only on weekends... Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Thailand is +7 hours GMT/UTC and neatly 12 hours ahead of EST.
2. The frequencies must be between 3500-3535 kHz by Thailand rules, CW or SSB there.
3. I have a slow, sold as fast, internet connection.
4. For any contacts, hoping there can be some, I would like to work CW first, then I xmit SSB to your CW to confirm for you a SSB contact, too. Note you will not xmit SSB in this part of the band.
5. This message is carefully written; please read it at least as carefully to avoid wrong replies.

IOTA NEWS
EU-008. Operator Jim, MM0BQI, will be active as MM0BQI/p from Shuna Island, between April 28th and May 5th. Activity will be on 80-17 meters CW, SSB and RTTY. QSL via his home callsign, direct or by the bureau.

EU-038. Operators Kees/PA3EEQ and Age/PA0XAW will be active from Texel Island (NET-024), April 28-29th. Activity will be on 80/40/30/20 meters, CW and SSB. QSL via their home callsigns, direct or by the bureau. Full information on the Dutch Lighthouses Award can be found at:

EU-048. Operators from the Eure et Loire area hams plan to activate two islands in this IOTA group as TM5EL, between April 28-29th. Activity will be on the HF bands, CW, SSB and the digital modes. Operators mentioned are: F6KHI & F5KDY ARC, F0DIG, F1LLS, F5RAB, F6AXN, F6DPD, F6GED, F6HEQ and F8AEJ. The team will first activate Belle Ile en Mer (DIFM AT-015, DIM O-08, WLOTA L0872, and also DFCF56-008 Fouquet Castle for the French Castles Award). The will then try to ativate Ilot des Poulains (DIFM AT-089, DIM O-15, WLOTA L0093 and also DFCF56-009 Sarah Bernhardt Castle for the French Castles Award. The access to this island is difficult due to some regulations, so the activity will be limited. QSL TM5EL via F6KHI.

EU-086. Yuri, UA9OBA, Radio Chief of Communications for the "Polar Ring-2007" expedition to the Arctic Ocean (Barentz Sea), informs OPDX that a plane will be landing on Vaygach Island, April 22-24th and operator Oleg, UA3ATS, will be active as R3CA/1 from EU-086 during 1-2 days only. The usual traffic frequency is 14120 kHz, but check the IOTA frequencies near 14260 kHz (SSB) and sometimes 14060 kHz (CW). View their trek throughout the day during their expedition with an inter- active map, messages, weather and satellite data, that can be seen on APRS HF system at:

EU-092. Jim, MM0BQI, will be active as MM0BQI/p from Tanera Mor (IOSA SC-10, SCOTIA CN-32), Summer Isles, between July 21st and August 4th. Activity will be on all bands 80-10 meters using CW, SSB and RTTY. QSL via his home callsign, direct or by the bureau.

EU-105. Members of the Union Francaise des Telegraphistes will be active as F8UFT from the Vierge Island (DIFM MA-020, WLOTA LH-0241, PB-007, ARLHS FRA-038, TWLHF F-075) on April 28th. Activity will only take place during their afternoon for about one hour and a half, between 1200-1600z. They will have two stations on the air on 40 and 20 meters, CW and SSB. QSL via F6ICG.

EU-125. Ric, DL2VFR, will be active as OZ/DL2VFR from Roemoe Island (NS-001 for the Danish Islands Award) between August 26th and September 1st. Activity will be on all HF bands, mostly CW. QSL via his home callsign, direct or by the bureau.

EU-184. Operators OH8GZN, OH8GZQ, OH8HQL, OH8HWI, OH8WM and possibly others will be active as OH8T from Hailuoto Island, April 20-22nd. Activity will be on 80-10 meters CW, SSB and the digital modes. There is also a possibility of 2 and 6 meters activity as well. QSL via OH8TA.

NA-057. Look for members of Radio Club de Honduras (HR2RCH) to be active from Little Cay, a small island of the Bahia Islands archipelago group in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Honduras, May 4-6th. Activity will be on 160-10 meters, CW, SSB and the digital modes, if conditions permit. QSL via HR2RCH direct for faster processing or by the bureau. For more information, visit:

NA-075. John, VA7PX, is currently active from Mayne Island (BC-035 for the Canadian Islands Award) until December 31, 2010. You will find him using the digital modes, particularly RTTY and PSK contesting. He also does SSB contesting. QSL via VE7AXU direct, by the bureau or LoTW.

MUSEUM SHIPS WEEKEND EVENT
This special event is sponsored by The Battleship New Jersey Amateur Radio Station, and will take place this year between 0000z, June 9th through 2359z June 10th. Currently, 49 ships have announced their participation in the event from USA, Germany, Belgium, Netherlands, Sweden and Italy. More are expected to join this event. During this event, operations are allowed to take place on any amateur radio frequency. However, most ships will be operating in the General portion of the bands.

Event's PSK31 activity is suggested on: 14070, 10142, 18100, 21070 and 28120 kHz. Some ships will also be on 3880-3885 kHz and 7290 kHz Amplitude Modulation (AM) with either their ship's original equipment or modern equipment. While any mode can be used during this event, CW and SSB are the dominant modes, organizors are encouraging all particpating ships that have the ability, to fire up their original equipment on 3885 kHz, 3600 and 3625 kHz (in the UK), 3705 (W. Europe), 7290 kHz and 14286 kHz in the AM mode.

OD, LEBANON
Pablo, CT1EFS, is reportedly in Shama near Tyre in the southern part of Lebanon, and will be staying there until June. He has been waiting for authorization from the local government to operate as OD5/CT1EFS. Activity will be on 40-15 meters CW/SSB. Watch for him daily around 1730z. He also has 6 meters with him. SUBMARINES ON THE AIR (SOTA)
The weekend of April 28-29th is the Submarines-On-The-Air Special Event. There will be many submarines on the air during this event, and there is a special certificate available for working 10 of the boats. The suggested frequencies are:
CW - 3543, 7043, 14043, 21043 and 28043 kHz
SSB - 3843, 3943, 7243, 7279, 14243, 21283, 21379 and 28343 kHz

SX2, GREECE
Look for special event station SX2SB to be active May 19-20th. Activity is to honor the soldiers who fought in the Battle of Skra during the World War I. The suffix of the callsign stands for "Skra Battle". The two opposing sides back then were Greece and Bulgaria. The special station will be active on all bands using the following modes: CW, SSB, PSK31 and RTTY. QSL Managers are SV7CUD and SV1EOS. QSL by the Bureau or Direct.

VK, AUSTRALIA
This coming Saturday, April 28th, is International Marconi Day (IMD), and the Hornsby and Districts Amateur Radio Club will be running the only IMD stations in Australia, using VK2IMD, on all HF bands. This international event is operated by stations in locations that have a link to Marconi. In the case of VK2IMD, this station is located close to Wahroonga, in the northern suburbs of Sydney, NSW, where Ernest Fisk of AWA received the first direct radio message from Britain to Australia in 1918. This was a telegram from the Australian Prime Minister Billy Hughes (who had just returned to Britain, having toured the World War I battlefields in France). YW, VENEZUELA (Rare State)
Members of the Radio Club Venezolano have announced their plan activation from Cojedes State using the special callsign YW4AJ, between April 28th and May 1st. Activity will be on 80-6 meters and on all modes. Satellites will be activated too. QSL via YV5AJ, direct ((QRZ.com) address) or by the bureau. This rare state is good for the D.E.V. ZS, SOUTH AFRICA (Talk to The Hell!)
Just a reminder that a team of ten operators from the Boland Amateur Radio Club will be visiting "The Hell", also known as Gamkaskloof or Gamka's Valley, situated in the Swartberg Mountains of the Southern Cape in the area between 33.28 S 21.15 E [KF06nr] and 33.33 S 21.42 E [KF06rq]. They will be using a special callsign, ZS1HELL. The team consist of Rassie/ZS1YT, Karl/ ZS1KC, Bennie/ZR1JHD, Graham/ZS1GVB, Conradt/ZR1CE, Derrek/ZS1DUP, Douglas/ZS1GUD, Johan/ZS1GP, Mac/ZS1XX and Olivier/ZS1OLI.

The special station with the callsign ZS1HELL will be active from Friday, April 27th until Monday, April 30th. The station will be active on 160, 80, 40 and 20 meters. Although the station will be active on some DX frequencies, their main aim will be to achieve a Worked All ZS Award and a Top Band certificate.
