3DA0, SWAZILAND (Update)
Operators David/GI4FUM (EI4DJ, 3DA0DJ), Tony/
G4LDL, Gerry/M0MVV, Michael/NC4MM and Yuri/UT5EL will be active from the
station at the Hawane Resort during the month of August. The object of
this activity is to provide a ham radio station at an international scout
camp near Manzini between July 31st and August 11th. David (the organizer
of the DXpedition) has operated from Hawane Resort (near Mbabane) as
3DA0DJ on two previous occasions (in March 2007 [CQWPX SSB] and in October
2008 [CQWW SSB]). The Hawane Resort is located in the mountains of Western
Swaziland at over 4,000ft ASL. It has been used for DXpeditions on quite
a few occasions and is serviced by Daniel Hubbard/ZS6JR of African DX
Safaris.
There are permanent antennas on the site including a 60 ft. lattice steel tower with HF beams for 20/15/10m and the WARC bands. There is a "Four Square" array of 40m dipoles suspended from the tower. Daniel usually erects a vertical for 80/160m in addition to these antennas. David/GI4FUM states, "It would be our intention to stay at and operate from Hawane Resort and in addition provide operators for the scout camp on a daily basis. The camp site will use the callsign 3DA0SS but each team member will have their own 3DA0 callsign. The camp site is about an hour's drive away. Unfortunately the campsite is not as well situated for takeoff to Europe and USA as Hawane Resort. The campsite is on a southerly facing hillside.
We would like to provide as many modes and as many bands as possible on this DXpedition. The March 2007 operation included an EME station which was very successful and made contacts in 100 different countries. During our stay at Hawane there is another DXpedition to Lesotho also serviced by African DX Safaris and team members from that DXpedition may join us during our time there. John, 9M6XRO, will be transferring to Hawane during the 2nd week of our stay." David/GI4FUM provides the following reference Web sites that may be of interest:

QSL INFO AND NEWS
PIRATE ALERT. Roger,G3SXW, reports, "A station signing EP2IA has been
QRV this week on 40 mtrs CW, asking for QSL via (QRZ.com). This was my
call in the 1970's, but I know nothing about the current operation. If
the callsign had been re-issued, I would expect him to give a valid QSL
route. But (QRZ.com) points at G3SXW, so I must conclude that this is a
pirate operation. Please help me to spread the word: PIRATE! I will
receive many QSLs that will be returned to sender (extra work for me)
and very disappointing for many DXers who think that they have worked
a new country. There are some very selfish people in this world."
PIRATE ALERT. Charles, M0OXO, reports, "Over the last few weeks, I have been made aware that my short contest callsign has been used several times by an unauthorized person and maybe during contests too. No-one has had permission to use this callsign and I have no knowledge who the offender may be. My short contest callsign is "M0X" and this has been used along with a regional designator of the Island of Guernsey. The callsign used (which I now assume is a Pirate) was "MU0X" and was certainly used on CW although I am not yet aware of any other modes. There are several 'spots' on the DX Cluster for the callsign, and there have also been several requests for QSL cards. If you have this callsign in your log then the contacts are obviously invalid as I have never operated from the Island of Guernsey. Please bear in mind the callsign of "MU0X", and if you hear it on air please report it to me on my E-mail address. There will be some Amateurs out there who think they have just worked Guernsey on a new band, mode or even an all time new one, but sadly, they will be very disappointed." Charlie's E-mail address is: charlie.debbie@btinternet.com
VQ9HB LOGS
Hutch, NK0S, announced that he is currently converting the

5/19/90.

ROSKILDE 1658 AWARD STATIONS ACTIVITIES
The weekend of April 4-5th, look
for stations that are involved "Roskilde 1658 Award". Details about this
award was featured in the February 2009 issue of CQ Magazine. Stations
expected to be active are SB1658OZ, SH1658DK, SH1658OZ, SK1658DK and the
Danish wild card station OZ1658ROS. That is a total of five qualifying
callsigns active, but you only need four callsigns for the award. It was
also mentioned that due to a called district meeting arranged by SK7BQ
during the past weekend, the callsigns operated by SK7BQ, SC1658OZ and
SK1658OZ will not be active during the upcoming weekend. The five special
callsigns will mainly be active on 80, 40 and 20 meters, depending on
conditions, using CW and SSB. Stations SB1658OZ and SH1658OZ will also be
active on PSK31. The press release states, "We have noted in our logs that
many award hunters work only CW or RTTY/PSK31. You will be more successful
if you work as many modes as possible. Not all of our operators are able
to work digital modes or CW." For complete information on all callsigns,
times in UTC and frequencies, please visit the "Roskilde 1658 Award" Web
page at:

VK9L, LORD HOWE ISLAND (Update)
The VK9LA operation is on the air with
all stations active. Operations will last until April 3rd. The team has
had some equipment problems: an ACOM Amp is dead, AL811H blew a tube and
one IC7000 has failed after 2 days. It was mentioned that the stations
on 160 and 80 meters are running amps, but they are having extremely high
static levels from the same weather system that has delayed the Mellish
Reef operation. The team plans to stay on the lower bands always. PLEASE
NOTE: The online log search is also active now at:
VK9M, MELLISH REEF (Update)
Operators George/AA7JV and Tomi/HA7RY,

be on 40/30/20/17 meters. They will try 80 meters, if local conditions
permit. There will be no 160 meters. QSL YJ0MXJ via F5VHY, and YJ0TXF

March 30th and April 10th. He will return home to Texas on April 11th. As
usual, the purpose of the trip is not a DXpedition, so his operating will
be spotty, but he states that he will try to put in as much radio time as
possible. He suggests that his operating hours will be between 2000-2300z
or between 0200-0500z and possibly some occasional activities between
1200-1400z. Saad says, "I suspect that 30, 40, and 80 meters will be the
bands of choice, and I will be active on SSB, CW, and RTTY." QSL via N5FF
((QRZ.com) for details).
YM2, TURKEY
