17M INTERFERENCE RESOLVED
Chuck, W3ON, informs OPDX and its readers: "I just received an E-mail from the Laura at the FCC regarding the CW transmissions heard on 18085 kHz over the last several weeks, that the issue has been resolved. The FCC received a request from the ARRL, and others such as me, to investigate the transmissions. It found that the transmissions were from a transmitter operating in the state of California. The FCC visited the radio site, and the transmissions ceased. Laura stated that the transmissions were inadvertent. No further details were furnished. When I checked this morning, July 22nd, the strange CW signals are gone. On a personal note, I am glad to hear that the FCC does react to requests sent by email. In my case, I received an E-mail within a few hours from Laura, at the FCC, that they had been contacted about the matter and were investigating the incident. This was my first attempt at writing to the FCC about anything. : ) "

5X, UGANDA
Only a few more days to work Stewart, GM4AFF, as 5X1SF from Kampala. He will be going QRT on July 29th. Activity has been mainly on 20 meters at various times using CW and SSB. QSL via GM4FDM.

7P8, LESOTHO
Arnold, WB6OJB, will once again be active as 7P8JK from here between September 15-22nd. Activity last time was on the HF bands, 40-10 meters using mostly SSB with some CW. QSL direct to his home callsign.

9H, MALTA (Update)
Jasper, PB2JJ, will be active as 9H3JN from Malta between September 2-14th. Activity will be on 80-10 meters, mostly CW and some SSB also. QSL via his home callsign.

EA6, BALEARIC ISLANDS
Jordi, EA3PT, will be active as EA6/EA3PT from Menorca Island (EU-004) between August 8-21st. Activity will be holiday style (at least 1 hour of the day) on 40/20/17/15/12/10 meters SSB only. He really likes 17 meters. QSL via LoTW or to his home callsign.

Members of the Dalkey Island Contest Group will be active as EI1DD from the Main island of Ireland (EU-115) during the RSGB IOTA Contest. Operators mentioned are Paul/EI2CA, Peter/EI7CC, Sean/EI7CD, Séamus/EI8BP, Ger/EI8CC, Aidan/EI8CE and Norbert/EI8KD/LX1NO. QSL only via the EI Bureau.

GB5/GW8, WALES (IOTA Op!)
Members of the Barry Amateur Radio Society (B.A.R.S.) will be on Flat Holm Island (EU-124) for the RSGB IOTA Contest (July 30-31st). The B.A.R.S. group will on the island Thursday, July 28th, for 5 days. Prior to the contest, the callsign will be GB5FI. During the IOTA Contest they will use GW8K. QSL via GW0ANA.
HISTORICAL NOTE: Glyn, GW0ANA, Chairman of B.A.R.S., informs OPDX that it was this island that Marconi came to in May 1897. He successfully transmitted a CW signal between Flat Holm in Wales to Brean Down in Somerset, England. Thus making this transmission the world's first DX and first IOTA DXpedition (as Marconi came from Italy to Wales).

GI, NORTHERN IRELAND
Operators Declan/EI9HQ, Ger/EI4GXB, Rory/EI4DJB, Peter/GI4VIV, GI0WHO and Victor/GI4ONL will be active as GI8P from Rathlin Island (EU-122) during the RSGB IOTA Contest (July 30-31st).

GJ, JERSEY
Members of the Jersey Contest Group will be active as GJ2A from Jersey Island (EU-013) during the RSGB IOTA Contest (July 30-31st). QSL via LoTW, or direct to GJ3DVC.

GM, SCOTLAND (IOTA & SCOTIA Ops!)
Andre, GM3VLB, will once again try to activate some of the SCOTIA islands (SCOTtish Island Award) he missed last year during a 3 week DXpedition in September to the two IOTA groups -- Orkney (IOTA EU-009, SCOTIA OI14) and Shetland (IOAT EU-012, SCOTIA SI11) Islands. Here is his proposed "plan of action" in relation to Shetland. Andre only has 6 of the 26 designated SCOTIA islands still to activate. XYL Veronica and Andre will be in Shetland from early morning July 28th to late evening August 5th. It is his plan to attempt to activate all 6 islands. His proposed, "ideal" plan of action is as follows, but we must add that all will depend on the WX and availability of boatmen.

As in previous attempts, there will almost certainly be changes to the plan. It is naturally impossible to suggest proposed start/finish times. Andre suggests that the best solution is to monitor 14257.5 kHz +/- QRM. He states, "There will be NO overnight/camping operation...I consider that at 73+, and after 15 years and 271 islands, I have "done my bit" in that respect...Where are the keen, young, activators ??!!" Planned schedule for Shetland is as follows:
July 28th - Papa Little (SI14); his 3 or 4th attempt!! Willing boatman, but no chance if winds come from a southerly direction.
July 29th - Balta (SI25); Friendly, willing boatman [took Alex and Andre to Linga (SI23) last year]... has to fit us into his working day..hopeful.
July 30th - Hascosay (SI21); Again, a willing boatman...skipper of an inter-island ferry... he'll do what he can to help..hopeful.
July 31st - Bigga (SI19); This is the big unknown...have seen no boats in the area, have no contacts, but will try everything. Andre may end up doing this one before SI21, if he sees an opportunity.
August 1st - West Linga (SI16); This needs to be tackled from Whalsay (SI15)...No problems (other than WX) anticipated...friendly fishermen on Whalsay...only WX dependent..Fairly certain he will spend Sunday and Monday nights on Whalsay in the old campervan, so Andre may well activate SI15 also, although this is not a prime target, as he has previously activated this one with Alex G(M)0DHZ.
August 2nd - Linga (SI17); No problem with this one. Willing fisherman; only WX-dependent, as ever...If not this day, then another. Certain!

These six are the main and final targets in SHETLAND (EU-012). Andre has allowed 3 extra days before sailing onwards to ORKNEY (EU-009), early evening on Friday, August 5th. WX-permitting, he hopes to take a short flight over to OUT SKERRIES on Thursday, August 4th (out at 0800z, back in at 1530z) - not a SCOTIA island, but (Andre hasn't told his XYL Veronica), he will take a rig and the "Islander" antenna, and beg for power...).

ORKNEY (EU-009): Andre's current plan is to be on Orkney from very late evening August 5th, until early morning August 18th. He has 9 SCOTIA "OI" islands on his "wanted" list - the last 9 to complete all 200 SCOTIA islands (assuming he is successful in Shetland). All, Andre can say is that he will attempt as many as possible. At the time of writing, Andre does not even have a proposed "plan of action" yet. He will be working on this over the next few days. As Andre says, "I will try to activate as many as possible in the time available... Andre needs, and will target, Swona (OI01), Switha (OI03), Copinsay (OI12), Muckle Green Holm (OI20), Linga Holm (OI21), Eynhallow (OI24), Holm of Scockness (OI26), Faray (OI28) and Calf of Eday (OI29).
