REALTIME BAND CONDITIONS WEB SITE http://www.bandconditions.com:
The purpose of this experimental Web site is to provide 24-7-365 actual (REALTIME) band condition information to CW QRPp, QRPe and CW/SSB for Contesters interested in increasing their scores. It can also be of benefit to other Radio Amateurs to determine band conditions for Nets and casual QSO's. This information is NOT based on any software pre- dictions or any kind of satellite based readings. It is based on a new Ionospheric sounding method called "HF Ionospheric Interferometry" which operates very similarly to the PolSAR system used by NASA.

TX3X CHESTERFIELD DXPEDITION NEWS (Updates)
On October 14th, 15th, and 17th, the TX3X team sent out the following:

* On the morning of 12 Oct we got a break in the weather and were able to dismantle the camps in about 3 hours and get the equipment back to the boat. It took several more hours to store everything and prepare to get under way. At 2PM local we set sail for Noumea and quickly found ourselves in very windy conditions and "confused seas". With 2 - 3 meter seas, coming at us from different directions and heavy winds the boat and passengers took a significant beating. On the night of 14 Oct the skipper decided to take the boat to the port of Koumac, New Caledonia. The weather forecast indicates conditions will get only worse and the risk of trying to make Noumea wasn't worth taking.

We are currently in Koumac, the plan is to find alternate transpor- tation to Noumea today.

We'll upload the last of the logs today. I know there are many e-mails asking about contacts and busted calls. We'll begin the process of working through the NiL and busted calls when we're near a reliable internet connection. This will probably not be until 19 Oct.

The boat will return to Auckland where the Advance Team will unload the equipment and turn it over the customs broker....
Team Chesterfield DX-pedition

* 15 Oct 4PM local -- Half the team arrived back in Noumea after a 6 hour bus ride. The others will arrive in about 3 hours. One intrepid DXer decided to ride the boat back to Noumea, he will arrive sometime in the night.

Everyone is in good health, a few bumps and bruises, but nothing serious. Dr. Arnie tended to everyone in the highest traditions of the medical profession, especially when it came to dispensing medications for motion sickness.

There are hundreds of e-mails asking for a "log check". I'm sure you realize this requires a solid Internet connection, which we don't have at the hotel, and many hours of someone's time to research.
All the logs have been uploaded to the server.
Team Chesterfield

* Saturday 17 Oct. -- The boat arrived in Noumea on Friday afternoon, Arnie, N6HC, rode the boat till the bitter end. The skipper reported the ride was a rough one. Arnie looked fine, with a big smile on his face, happy to have had the total sailing experience.

The logs are uploaded and OQRS is operational at TX3X.com We appreciate the kind words we're receiving in e-mails and on the forums. The donations coming in through OQRS and via the "Donate" button at TX3X.com will help offset the project cost. We know several areas are having trouble getting to the website, the domain registrar is investigating the issue.

The incorrectly logged PSK31 contacts were corrected. We are receiving your e-mails regarding busted calls and "Not" in Log situations, they will each be investigated when we have stable and fast Internet con- nections, this process will take time. Please do NOT send multiple e-mails for the same problem or write a long explanation of the problem, just include the specifics of the contact(s) in question.

On the first day we had a significant web site outage caused by our web hosting supplier, you all saw the effects. With the help of John Miller, K6MM, the web hosting supplier restored our service. Over the next 48 hours the team members will begin their long journey home. The boat will return to Auckland, New Zealand where we will off- load the equipment and arrange for its return to the USA.

A top priority of the DX-pedition organizers is to get everyone home safely and in good health. Other than a few scrapes and bruises (and some motion sickness) we're happy to report we met that goal.

Thanks to the DX community for your understanding, we were happy to provide all the new ones and band fills.

VP8SGI/VP8STI DXPEDITION NEWS (Press Release from the Intrepid-DX Group VP8 Team)
Paul, N6PSE, sent out the following on October 15th [edited]:
"An appeal from the VP8STI and VP8SGI Team" -- The activations of South Sandwich and South Georgia Islands as VP8STI and VP8SGI in January-February 2016 are the next major Dxpeditions to take place.

The decision to activate VP8-South Sandwich and VP8-South Georgia was made upon seeing how well FT4TA, FT5ZM and K1N were funded.

That gave us the confidence to go forward activating these two rare and remote islands on the same trip. We are now finding ourselves with a signi- ficant funding shortfall. By adding South Georgia to our itinerary we added fifteen days at $8,000 per day or $120,000 onto the cost to activate South Sandwich.

Our analysis of our funding shows us that while our individual donations have exceeded all expectations, our club donations have not. We are seeing that many Clubs that gave FT5ZM or K1N $1000-$2000 are giving us $500 or a fraction of what they gave to these other Dxpeditions. Some clubs have decided not to make any donation to us that gave quite generously to other recent Dxpeditions.

While we appreciate each and every donation, we can tell you that a Club donation to us of $500 amounts to a donation of $250 for the activation of each of these rare and remote islands. With a budget of $425,000 we are making small incremental steps when leaps and bounds are needed.

As you know, upfront donations are critical for a Dxpeditions success. Each member of the Intrepid DX Group has contributed $15,000 of their personal funds to move the VP8STI-South Sandwich and VP8 South Georgia Dxpeditions forward. These are two ten day Dxpeditions to two top ten DXCC entities back to back. (#3 and #8)

To date, we have raised $142,000 above the team contribution of $210,000. We still have a deficit of $73,000 that we need to fill as much as we can.

It is only through the generosity of Club donations such as yours that we can make this DXpedition possible.

We would love to realize sufficient support so that the Intrepid-DX Group could plan the future activation of another top five island entity after the VP8STI/VP8SGI Dxpedition. Without sufficient funding, we cannot make those kinds of plans for the future.

At this time, we are asking for those Foundations and Clubs that have not yet made a donation to please consider doing so. We cannot make it there on our own.

Please watch for updates and announcements on The Daily DX, DX-World, DX Coffee and DX News. We hope that you will consider a donation today.

Thank you,
Paul, N6PSE, Co-Leader, VP8 Team
